Issue: On certain transit buses, a software problem could cause the antilock braking system (ABS) warning light not to turn on if there's a problem with the ABS. Safety Risk: A warning light that doesn't turn on could cause you not to be aware of a problem with the ABS. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: New Flyer will notify owners in writing and provide you with instructions for how to update the vehicle software. Alternatively, you may contact New Flyer to arrange for a service team to perform the repairs.

Issue: Certain transit buses may not have enough emergency exits or the exits may be in the wrong location. As a result, the buses don't meet certain requirements of Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: Missing or incorrectly located emergency exits could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency. This could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: New Flyer will notify owners in writing. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

Issue: On certain buses, the remote fuel filter hoses may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, a fuel hose could disconnect and fuel could leak. This could also cause the engine to stall while driving. Note: This recall only affects buses equipped with certain L9 diesel engines. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Additionally, a sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: New Flyer will notify owners by email and advise you to take your bus to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the remote fuel filter hoses.

Issue: On certain transit buses, the transmission yoke bolt could loosen and cause the driveshaft to separate from the transmission. If this happens, there would be a sudden loss of power to the wheels. Safety Risks: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, a bus that is disabled could create the need for a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: New Flyer will notify owners by email. An Allison Transmission technician will inspect and re-tighten the transmission yoke bolts, as necessary.

Issue: On certain buses, the fuel rail assembly could develop a leak. Note: This recall only affects buses equipped with a Cummins L9 diesel engine. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: New Flyer will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your bus to a Cummins authorized service center to inspect the fuel rail. If damage is found, the fuel rail and fuel lines will be replaced. If no damage is found, the fuel rail will be reassembled with new crush washers using a special tool.

On certain buses, the sidewalls of the driveshaft's slip yoke were modified and may fracture and fatigue because they are too thin. This could result in failure of the driveshaft, which would cause loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Owners will be provided instructions to inspect and replace the modified slip yokes.

On certain buses, the connections from the front air brake hoses to the ABS modulator valves may not have been tightened to specification during assembly. If the connections were to separate, it would cause a loss of braking capability on the front axle, which could result in longer stopping distances, and would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Owners will be advised to disconnect the suspect front air brake hose connections, and reinstall the connections to the specified torque.

On certain buses, the latching mechanism of the driver's seat belt buckle may prevent the tongue of the seat belt from being inserted into the latch assembly. If the seat belt is unable to be latched, and the vehicle is operated without the seat belt fastened, in the event of a crash, the risk of injury to the driver could be increased. Correction: Owners will be advised to inspect the date code of the seat belt buckle, and replacement parts will be supplied as necessary.

On certain buses, the software for the Electric Transit Operator (ETO) control module which controls the rear passenger exit door may contain an error. This could result in a higher than required output torque from the ETO control module when the door is in a fully open position, which over time may result in a fracture of the rear door roller plate. If the roller plate fails there is a potential for the rear door to open inadvertently while the bus is in motion, which would increase the risk for injury to vehicle occupants, and/or result in damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ETO control module, and replace both rear door roller plates with more robust versions.

Certain buses equipped with a Recaro ERGO-M driver seats may be missing welds on the seat structure. As a result, the seatbelt anchorage assembly could separate from the seat structure in the event of a crash, which would increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect for missing welds and if required replace the J-brackets.

On certain buses, a tie rod end retaining clamp from the center link tube assembly on the front axle may have not have been torqued to specification during front end alignment adjustment by the vehicle manufacturer. This could result in the tie rod end separating, which could result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the retaining clamp for proper torque. If any wear or movement of the cross link assembly is evident, the damaged components will be replaced.

On certain buses, the software installed that controls the electronic door controller assemblies may be incorrect. The software programming in the controller may misinterpret door operational status from the vehicle multiplex system. If the driver were to initiate the doors open option as the bus accelerates from a stop, this could allow the passenger doors to reopen. If this were to occur while the vehicle is in motion, an occupant could fall from the vehicle and sustain injuries. Correction: Dealers will update the vehicle software.

On certain vehicles, insufficient clearance through the brake pedal mounting plate can result in improper alignment between the brake pedal assembly and the brake valve actuator. This misalignment could cause the brake valve actuator to become damaged, causing an increase in resistance when depressing the brake pedal, or brake drag when the pedal is released. This could increase vehicle stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Owners will be sent repair instructions and revised parts.

This would allow the engine to start unexpectedly when the ignition circuit is re-energized, which could injure someone working in the engine compartment. Correction: New Flyer will provide fleet operators with directives to inspect and replace both ignition switches (in the driver’s area, and in the engine compartment).

On certain buses, the instrument panel may fail to display the "Check Engine" or "Stop Engine" indicator lamps. As a result, the engine may enter de-rate or shutdown mode without giving the operator prior indication of a problem, or the chance to use the "Stop Engine Override" function to move the vehicle to a safe location. Engine shutdown would result in lost vehicle propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Factory service representatives will visit customer locations and update the instrument panel programming.

On certain buses equipped with a Cummins engine, the V-band clamps used to connect the inlet and outlet cone sections to the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst (DOC) / Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) include a T-bolt which can fracture and fail when subjected to stress or load. A fracture or failure of the T-bolt may cause the clamp to loosen and the inlet or outlet sections attached to the DOC/DPF housing to disconnect. Should this occur, hot exhaust gases can vent prior to exiting the tailpipe, creating a risk of combustion or damage to adjacent materials, which could result in a vehicle fire. If both clamps fail, the DOC/DPF housing could detach completely, separate from the vehicle, and strike another vehicle, stationary object, or bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Cummins will install updated V-band clamps.
