About VINscan

VINscan is an independent VIN decoder. One action — pasting a VIN — returns the vehicle's factory specifications and open safety recalls from both sides of the border: Transport Canada and the U.S. NHTSA.

All of our data comes from public government sources: the U.S. Department of Transportation's vPIC database and the Transport Canada Vehicle Recalls Database (Open Government Licence – Canada). We don't scrape private sites and we don't guess.

VINscan is not a vehicle history report: we don't know a vehicle's accident record, title status, or odometer reading, and we don't pretend to. For history, use a licensed provider.
