  Issue: On certain vehicles, if the ignition switch is left in the "ON" position for too long, it could drain the battery. As a result, when the battery is recharged, and the vehicle is restarted, the airbag warning light will turn on and the airbags won't work in a crash. Safety Risk: Airbags that don't work properly could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, as necessary, update the vehicle software or replace the airbag sensor unit.

Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. If a bolt is missing, the caliper and remaining bolt will be replaced.

Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your car to a dealer to update the SBS control software. On certain cars with earlier build dates, the instrument cluster will also be reprogrammed or replaced. Mazda will provide these owners with an updated owner's manual that provides revised information about how to temporarily deactivate the SBS system.

Safety Risk: A head restraint that does not remain in place in a crash could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Mazda will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealership to install a plastic spacer at the bottom of the head restraint lock release button.

It could also cause the passenger seat belt status indicator to incorrectly turn off when the seat belt is not buckled. Additionally, the rear seat belt status indicators may turn off regardless of seat belt use. Note: This problem has no effect on the operation of the airbag system. Safety Risk: Seat belt and airbag indicator lights that do not work properly could cause confusion. They could also cause a driver to be unaware that the rear seat occupants are not buckled. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash. If no cracks are detected, a reinforcement bracket will be added to the lifter links, and the number of push nuts will be increased to two per seat lifter link. In the worst case, the housing may be deformed, resulting in bulb becoming detached and loss of DRL functionality. A loss of DRL illumination could render the vehicle less visible to other motorists and to pedestrians during daylight hours, possibly resulting in a crash causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs.

  On certain vehicles, clearance between the engine harness and the housing of the starter motor may be insufficient. As a result, the covering of the harness may be damaged through vibration during operation, possibly causing a short-circuit between certain harness wires and the starter housing. A short circuit can result in engine control malfunction and/or poor shift quality. In the worst case, the main fuse may blow out causing the engine to stall and inability of restart. Engine stalling would result in lost propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the engine harness and, if necessary, install a protector clip.
