Transport Canada recalls

04
  • Structure#2021648

    43 units affected

Issue: On certain trailers with rear sliding axles, the rear axle attachment points could crack. Specifically, small cracks may appear in the front corners of the slide pan where the suspension attaches. Over time, the cracks can grow and cause the suspension hanger to detach from the trailer. Safety Risk: A suspension hanger that detaches from the trailer could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Trail King will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your trailer to a dealer for an inspection and to add reinforcements between the suspension hanger and the slide pan. If any cracks are found, the cracks will be welded and repaired before adding the reinforcements.

  • Structure#2019134

    13 units affected

Issue: On certain trailers, the fifth-wheel coupler plate may crack. These cracks may be visible in the corners of the coupler plate underneath the gooseneck during an inspection. If the coupler plate cracks entirely, the trailer may disengage from the tractor. Note: This recall affects trailers built with a 14-inch king pin setting and ¼-inch coupler plate. Safety Risk: A trailer that disconnects from the tow-vehicle creates the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the fifth-wheel coupler plate replaced.

  • Structure#2018516

    52 units affected

On certain trailers, the welded joint between the aluminum cross member and frame beam may be inadequate and could crack. If the weld cracks are not detected and allowed to propagate, other areas of the frame structure may also crack. This could eventually cause the suspension to loosen from the frame, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the trailers and replace the cross member with one of a different design.

  • Structure#2017153

    37 units affected

On certain trailers equipped with 18", 20", 24" or 30" king pin settings, cracks may develop in the rear of the fifth wheel coupler plate because the coupler plate’s material is not thick enough to support the weight of the trailer. If the condition is not addressed, and the coupler plate cracks entirely, the trailer may become disengaged from the tractor, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the coupler plate. Note: Small cracks in the corners of the coupler plate underneath the gooseneck may be visible upon inspection.
