Issue: On certain motorhomes, the front overhead cabinets may not be properly attached. As a result, a cabinet could detach and fall onto the driver or passenger. Note: This is an expansion of Transport Canada Recall 2020-644. Safety Risk: A cabinet that detaches and falls could create a risk of injury. If the cabinet falls while driving, it may also create a distraction and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Thor Motor Coach will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorhome to a dealership to verify that the cabinets are properly mounted. If the cabinets are loose, the dealership will reinstall them properly.

Issue: On certain motorhomes, the nuts that attach the rear stabilizer bar bracket(s) could loosen and the attachment bolts and bracket could break. If this happens, the bolts and bracket could detach and separate from the vehicle. Safety Risk: Parts that detach from the motorhome could create a hazard for other road users and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Thor Motor Coach will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorhome to a Ford dealership to inspect, and replace or repair the rear stabilizer attachment bolts and brackets as necessary.

Issue: On a small number of motorhomes, the exterior ladder may not be installed correctly. As a result, the ladder could separate if you use it. Safety Risk: A ladder that detaches could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Thor Motor Coach will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your motorhome to a dealer to inspect the exterior ladder. It will be reinforced or relocated, as necessary. To minimize the safety risk, Thor Motor Coach recommends that you should not use the ladder until the recall repairs have been completed.

Corrective Actions: Thor Motor Coach will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorhome to a dealer to add additional over-current protection to the electronic control center.

Issue: On certain motorhomes equipped with frameless windows, the glass may not be properly attached to the metal hinges. As a result, the glass could separate from the hinge and fall from the trailer. Safety Risk: A window that detaches from the trailer could create a road hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorhome to a dealer to inspect the adhesive bonding on the window glass. Dealers will replace the glass, if necessary.

If one or both windshield wipers were to fail during use, a driver's visibility could be restricted, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. On certain motorhomes equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. This could result in vehicle overloading leading to poor vehicle handling characteristics, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Updated labels will be mailed to owners of affected vehicles along with instructions for proper installation.

This could result in the wiper system being loose, which could limit the driver’s visibility under certain conditions which may increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the wiper system to verify that the original recall repair was completed correctly, and will repair as necessary. Note: This recall supersedes recalls 2017-078 and 2017-172. A portion of vehicles repaired under the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair.

The exhaust should have a heat shield in this area, as without one, the heat would not be properly dissipated around the exhaust of the vehicle. This would increase the risk of melting and/or a fire, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a heat shield to protect the storage compartment.

On certain motorhomes equipped with Lippert Components Inc. electric entry steps, an internal bolt on the steps that attaches the fan gear assembly to the steps could fracture. This results in the fan gear disengaging from the steps, which could cause the steps to stop in an unexpected position and appear to be loose or unstable. If the steps become unstable, it could cause a person to fall, resulting in injury. Correction: Dealers will install a step retainer bracket to reinforce the operating mechanism, and all bolts of the mechanism will also be replaced.

On certain motorhomes outfitted with Carefree awnings, the mounting bracket that secures the awning to the motorhome can crack and break apart. If the mounting bracket were to break apart, the awning can collapse, which could strike another vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander, causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will remove and replace the mounting brackets.

On certain motorhomes, the Battery Control Center (BCC) could fail while the vehicle is underway. This would cause the engine to stall and all electrical components to become inoperative. Engine stalling would result in a loss of vehicle propulsion. Failure of the lighting system may result in the following road users being unaware of the driver intentions. It could also compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as reducing vehicle conspicuity during hours of darkness. In conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver’s reactions, these issues could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will correct the BCC electrical connection to the chassis.

On certain motorhomes, the cable for the transmission range indicator "PRND321" on the instrument cluster may be damaged by a sharp edge on the shift lever arm. If the indicator cable is cut, the indicator will remain in the "1" position (first gear) regardless of what gear is actually selected. With no gear indication, the operator may inadvertently select an incorrect gear, increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Ford dealers will replace the transmission selector arm and indicator assembly.

On certain motorhomes, the engine exhaust pipe is located too close to a storage compartment, allowing heat from the exhaust pipe to melt/damage the cargo storage box and nearby components. This could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install an exhaust heat shield.
