    Issue: On certain fire trucks, a problem inside the door latch assemblies could cause the doors to become stuck. If this happens, the doors may not be able to be opened. Safety Risk: Doors that can't be opened could slow your exit from the vehicle and/or delay emergency responders from entering the vehicle. This could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to an authorized service facility to inspect and, if necessary, replace the door latch assemblies.

    Issue: On a small number of fire trucks equipped with a Weldon vehicle multiplex system, a software problem could cause the power distribution unit not to shut off if there is a short circuit or a wiring problem. As a result, the unit and/or wiring could overheat and melt. Safety Risk: A power distribution unit and/or wiring that overheats and melts could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and advise you to contact Weldon to update the Weldon power distribution unit software.

If this happens, the vehicle could move unexpectedly. This issue also causes the vehicle not to meet the requirements of the Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: A delay before the parking brake applies could result in unintended vehicle movement, and create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify the owners by mail and arrange for an inspection of the inversion valve. If the valve is not certified, it will be replaced.

    Issue: On certain fire trucks, the retaining clips (keepers) may not have been installed correctly on the steer axle nuts. As a result, an axle nut could loosen and a wheel end could separate from the truck. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that separates could also hit another person or vehicle. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to an authorized service facility to inspect the steer axle nut retaining clips, and replace them if necessary.

    Issue: On certain fire trucks, the transmission control module (TCM) may not be programmed correctly. As a result, the pump mode may not engage properly, and the truck may not pump water. Safety Risk: A fire pump that doesn't work could cause a lack of water pressure for fighting fires. This could delay emergency response and increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to an Allison Transmission service center to reprogram the TCM.

Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact them to arrange for an inspection. The load center will be inspected, and repaired as necessary.

Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and provide a replacement electrical multiplex module and instructions for how to install it.

Note: This recall only affects fire trucks equipped with a Cummins X12 diesel engine. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Cummins will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your fire truck to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the fuel tubes for cylinders 4, 5 and 6 and install vibration isolators.

If this happens, the air brake line could be damaged and cause the parking brakes to apply suddenly. Note: This recall only affects emergency vehicles equipped with certain 180-series Meritor axles. Safety Risk: A parking brake that self-applies while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, if a following driver does not recognize when a vehicle ahead is braking, there could also be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a dealership or repair facility, who must contact Meritor's Technical Call Center to verify if the truck is affected by this campaign. The differential carrier assembly will be replaced, if necessary.

Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to replace the pump shift solenoid.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the fuel rail assembly could develop a leak. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a Cummins L9 or ISX12 diesel engine. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Cummins authorized service center to inspect the fuel rail. If damage is found, the fuel rail and fuel lines will be replaced. If no damage is found, the fuel rail will be reassembled with new crush washers using a special tool.

    Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with a Weldon Vista IV control panel, an electrical problem could cause the screen to not work properly. As a result, the operator may not be able to control or access certain vehicle functions. Depending on the vehicle configuration, this can affect the emergency warning lights, patient care devices and/or cause the rearview camera image not to display. Safety Risk: Emergency personnel that do not have immediate access to vehicle controls could create a delay in emergency response. Additionally, a rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a dealer to make arrangements to repair or replace the Vista display screen(s), as necessary.

Under certain heavy duty cycles, the lugs on the buss bar may loosen. Under high electrical loads, loose electrical connections could cause the circuit to overheat, which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the IOTA switch.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the castle nuts, and if necessary, tighten them to the proper specification.

Correction: Dealers will install a transient noise suppression device to the restraint control module wiring harness.

As a result, the wiper pivot shaft could spin in the wiper arm, rendering the windshield wipers inoperable. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, which could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the windshield wiper shaft assembly.

If this occurs while the cab is raised, a person in the vicinity of the engine could be struck and injured. Correction: Dealers will replace the fan clutch mounting bracket fasteners.

    On certain vehicles, specific operating conditions (such as tight, successive, highly banked curves in opposite directions), could trigger unintended Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system intervention. As a result, the ESC may unnecessarily apply one of the front brakes in order to correct the perceived oversteer condition. This may cause the vehicle to deviate from the intended path, thereby increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the ESC module.
