Issue: On certain vehicles, if the front bearing on the alternator fails, the alternator belts could continue to turn the alternator. This could cause the alternator bearing to overheat. Safety Risk: An overheated alternator bearing could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Prevost will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Prevost service center to replace the alternator belts. To reduce the safety risk, Prevost recommends that you should inspect the front bearing on the alternator regularly, and not operate the engine with a defective alternator.

Issue: On certain buses, the driveshaft clamp bolts may not be properly tightened. As a result, the driveshaft could detach. This could cause a loss of power to the drive wheels and disable the bus. It could also cause the driveshaft to detach completely from the vehicle. Safety Risk: A bus that is disabled could result in a transfer of passengers in an uncontrolled environment, which may create a risk of injury. Additionally, a driveshaft that separates from the vehicle could create a hazard for others nearby and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Prevost will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a Prevost service center to replace and ensure the driveshaft clamps are tightened correctly.

On certain buses equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. On certain vehicles equipped with 10,000 lbs trailer hitch receivers, the hitch may have been installed with locknuts containing a nylon insert. These are unsuitable for this application and may loosen over time. If the locknuts were to become loose, the trailer hitch may deform or detach from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash. Correction: Vehicles will be inspected and nylon-style locknuts will be replaced with all-metal (Stover) style locknuts.

On certain vehicles equipped with an automatic fire suppression system (AFSS), the cylinder pressure release valve may not withstand engine compartment temperatures, which could result in a loss of the extinguishing agent. As a result, the fire suppression system would no longer be operational in the event of a fire, which could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will relocate the AFSS cylinder and ensure the cylinder is charged.

On certain vehicles, the engine calibration for the “limp home” mode was inadvertently set too high at 1750 rpm instead of 1200 rpm. Should the “limp home” mode be activated, the increased idle speed may cause sudden and unexpected acceleration, which could result in very high vehicle speeds and make it difficult to slow or stop the vehicle if the transmission is not shifted into neutral. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install updated engine calibration software.

Certain vehicles fail to conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The side marker lamps do not contain integral reflectors, nor were additional reflectors provided. This could render the vehicle less visible to other motorists during hours of darkness, possibly resulting in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install separate side reflectors.

On certain vehicles, incorrect steering gearbox mounting bolts may have been installed during vehicles assembly. These bolts are longer than designed and could reach bottom, preventing the application of adequate tightening torque. Should the bolts loosen, the steering gear could separate from its mounting bracket, which may affect steering performance. A loss of steering control could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the steering gear mounting bolts.
