Issue: On certain vans, the upper hood latch may not be properly installed. Under some driving conditions, this could allow the hood to open suddenly while driving. Safety Risk: If the hood opens while driving, it could suddenly block a driver's view. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their van to a dealer to inspect, and if necessary, tighten the mounting screws for the upper hood latch. Any missing screws will be replaced.

Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: Owners will be notified by mail and instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the passenger-front airbag module replaced. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their van to a dealer to replace the tempered window glass with laminated glass.

Safety Risk: High-beam lights that stay on could cause glare and reduce visibility for oncoming traffic. This could increase the risk of a crash. On certain vehicles with folding seats and a total permissible weight of under 4536 kg (10,000 lbs), the information label for body builders contains incorrect information regarding the unloaded vehicle weight (UVW). The purpose of the label is to provide fuel consumption relevant weight information, however, if a body builder were to refer to the incorrect UVM information, the maximum permissible UVW may be exceeded after the vehicle modification is complete, which in the event of a crash, could increase risk of injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the label and check that the UVW is not exceeded.

On certain vehicles, the bracket for the intermediate bearing of the drive shaft may not have been welded correctly during assembly. The retaining function of the bracket may be compromised, potentially causing it to become loose. In the event of a frontal crash the bracket may become loose and the drive shaft could damage the fuel system, allowing a fuel leak to occur. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire. Correction: Dealers will fix the bracket of the intermediate bearing of the drive shaft with three additional rivets.
