Issue: Under certain conditions, a software problem could cause too much fuel to be injected into the engine. As a result, the exhaust system could overheat and cause the engine wiring harness to melt. If this happens, there could be a sudden loss of power to the wheels. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, wiring that melts could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the engine control unit software.

As a result, the emergency call feature may not work properly when there is a crash or when the SOS button is pressed. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air software update to each vehicle. If the update cannot be completed successfully, you will be notified to schedule an appointment to have the update performed by a dealer.

When the steering assistant is active, this could cause the Hands-off Detection feature not to detect when the driver removes their hands from the steering wheel. This may create a situation where dash warnings prompting the driver to grasp the steering wheel are not displayed as well as a failure to initiate a system function which brings the vehicle to a complete stop. This could create an increased risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will check the position of the steering boot and correct it, if necessary.
