  Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause a small part of the rearview camera image to be blocked. Canadian regulations require the full rearview image to display while the transmission is in reverse gear. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display properly could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, update the rearview camera software.

  Issue: On certain vehicles, the power steering control unit may corrode. If this happens, moisture could enter the control unit and cause it to fail. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. Note: This is an expansion of Mercedes-Benz recall 4694202 (Transport Canada Recall No. 2020-617). This recall only affects vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). Safety Risk: A loss of power steering assist would result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the power steering control unit.

If a driver continues to operate the vehicle, the bearing could separate from the universal joint and cause a loss of steering control. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to inspect the steering shaft. It will be replaced, if necessary.

  Issue: On certain vehicles equipped with the emergency calling (eCall) system, the communications module may temporarily lose power during a crash. If this happens, the wrong vehicle location may be transmitted through the eCall system. This could cause emergency responders to be sent to the wrong location. Safety Risk: If the eCall system sends out the wrong location after a crash, there could be a delay in response from emergency services. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and send a wireless over-the-air update to each vehicle. If the update cannot be completed successfully, you will be notified to schedule an appointment to have the update performed by a dealer.

  Issue: On certain vehicles, the occupant classification system (OCS) may not work properly. In some cases, this could cause the airbag system to turn off the passenger-front airbag, even if an adult is seated in the front passenger seat. Alternatively, the airbag may not be turned off when a child seat is installed in the front passenger seat. Safety Risk: An airbag that deploys in front of a child seat, or an airbag that doesn't properly deploy in front of a passenger could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Corrective Actions: Mercedes-Benz will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the front passenger seat cushion.

  On certain vehicles, electrostatic discharge, when combined with a broken clock spring and insufficient grounding of the steering components, could lead to an inadvertent deployment of the driver's frontal airbag. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation, could startle the driver, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will add sufficient grounding to the steering components. Note: A broken clock spring would result in a driver airbag warning message appearing in the instrument cluster, as well as a red airbag warning lamp illuminating.

  On certain vehicles, the starting current limiter could be overloaded under certain conditions. In the event the starter is blocked, a very high electric current could flow through the starting current limiter during repeated engine starting attempts. The high electric draw could cause the starting current limiter to overheat causing the surrounding components to melt which would increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction : Dealers will install an additional fuse in the electrical line to the starter.

Correction : Dealers will replace the vacuum line from the brake booster.

  On certain vehicles, fuses in the passenger side interior fuse box might have been installed incorrectly during assembly. This could result in one or more fuses losing electrical contact, which could affect different system functions, such as front passenger seat occupancy recognition, passenger side airbag indicator lamp, the instrument cluster and the windshield wipers. Should the front passenger seat occupancy recognition system be disabled, and the passenger side airbag indicator lamp be affected, there would be no visual warning that the passenger frontal airbag is not operating correctly. Failure of the passenger frontal airbag to deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Also, instrument cluster and windshield wiper malfunction could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the installation position and orientation of the fuses in the passenger side interior fuse box, and replace the fuse box if necessary.

Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the CVT gearbox assembly.
