Issue: On certain trucks, the fasteners for the steering gearbox may not have been tightened properly. As a result, the fasteners could loosen and cause a loss of steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could create a risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mack will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace and tighten the steering gearbox fasteners. Any damaged parts will be replaced.

Issue: On certain trucks, a software problem could allow the engine to be started with the transmission in the drive or reverse gear. If this happens, the truck could move suddenly when it is started. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the truck could increase the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Mack recommends you ensure the transmission is in the neutral gear before starting the engine until the recall repairs have been completed. Mack will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to update the ECU software.

Issue: A small number of trucks may have been manufactured without the wiring for the antilock braking system (ABS) for a towed trailer. Additionally, there is no warning light to advise the driver if the ABS for the trailer isn't working. Safety Risk: An antilock braking system that doesn't work could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mack will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to install the ABS wiring and warning light.

As a result, some safety systems may not work, including the antilock braking system, automatic traction control, electronic stability control, active cruise control and the collision mitigation system. Safety Risks: Vehicle safety systems that don't work correctly could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mack will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to reprogram the ECU software.

Issue: On a small number of trucks equipped with a Cummins L9N natural gas engine, when the engine is lifted, the rear lifting bracket attached to the cylinder head could detach. If this happens, the engine could swing or fall. Safety Risk: An engine that swings or falls could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Cummins will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a Cummins authorized service center to inspect and, if necessary, replace the studs on the rear lifting bracket.

Corrective Actions: Mack will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to remove the exhaust tube and fitting from the parking brake control valve.

Issue: Certain trucks do not have the correct warning indicator to show when there is low air pressure in the brake system. Canadian regulations require the use of a symbol, instead of text, for the low air pressure warning. This can help to avoid driver confusion. Safety Risk: This small error does not affect the function of the air brake system or the accuracy of the information displayed. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. Mack has made changes to ensure that all new vehicles display the correct symbol when there is low air pressure in the brake system.

Safety Risk: Headlights that are not properly aimed could cause reduced visibility as well as glare for oncoming drivers and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Mack will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to inspect the headlights. The headlights will be adjusted as necessary.

Certain trucks were equipped with Bridgestone M864, M860A or M854 wide-base tires, size 425/65R22.5, that may not conform to the endurance testing requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 119 - Tires for vehicles other than passenger cars. A manufacturing problem could cause a bulge or blister to be present in the sidewall of the tires. Over time, this could cause deterioration of the tire’s structure and lead to a sudden tire failure that may increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace affected tires as necessary.
