    Issue: On certain trucks, the reservoir tank for the air brake system is too small. In certain situations, this could cause reduced braking. Canadian regulations require enough air reservoir capacity to ensure the brakes work even with heavy use or when there is a partial loss of the air system. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace or add an additional air reservoir tank, as necessary.

  • Steering#2022210

    Issue: On certain trucks, the fasteners that attach the steer arm to the steering knuckle may fail. If this happens, the steer arm could separate from the steering knuckle and cause a loss of steering control. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a Dana D-series steer axle. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development.

    Issue: On certain trucks, the hoses between the fuel pump and remote fuel filter may be defective and could leak. Note: This recall only affects trucks equipped with a Cummins 2021 model year L9 diesel engine. Safety Risk: A fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the fuel hoses.

    Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 - Air Brake Systems. The two service brake connections of the SR-7 spring brake valve assembly that provide the valve with feedback from the primary and secondary service brake applications may have been reversed during installation. Although the SR-7 valve would still function properly if there were normal reservoir pressure, in the event of a failure in the primary or secondary circuit, the redundant circuit would not provide adequate service brake functionality, and the vehicle would fail to meet the emergency brake system performance standard. This could result in reduced braking performance which could result in a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect, remove and reconnect the air lines to the correct port of the SR-7 valve.

    Certain vehicles equipped with HID headlamps may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. A Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) that is optically combined with a turn signal lamp must switch off when the turn signal lamp is switched on as a hazard warning signal. In the affected vehicles, the DRL overrides the hazard flashing functionality after the service brake is applied for more than 2 seconds, which is contrary to the standard. The hazard functionality returns to normal when the application of the service brake is removed. Turn signal functionality would not impacted. Failure to warn oncoming vehicles with flashing hazard lamps could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.

    On certain vehicles, water could migrate into wiper motor head and could lead to internal corrosion. This internal corrosion could form a conductive salt bridge which could result in a short circuit, causing the wiper system to fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, and a short circuit could increase the risk of fire, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a shield over the wiper motor to protect it from water intrusions and prevent corrosion.

    On certain vehicles, brake chamber diaphragm(s) may not be properly seated. This could lead to brake drag, causing brake overheating or unintended spring brake application. These issues could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the brake chambers.

    On certain vehicles equipped with Cummins ISB and ISL engines, the fuel filter shell and nut plate could separate, causing a fuel leak and also causing the engine to stall. Due to a defect in manufacturing, the seat belt buckle may not release as required by the standard. This could hinder egress from the vehicle in an emergency, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace affected seatbelt buckles.

    The stop/turn/tail lights used on certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The plastic lamp housing may shrink, causing the light to fall out of the light retention ring . In this situation, the light would no longer comply with the mounting requirements of CMVSS 108 and visibility to other motorists would be affected. This could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace affected lights.

As such, the engine may be started when the transmission is in gear, which would allow the vehicle to move unexpectedly. This could result in property damage, or cause the vehicle to strike a bystander, potentially resulting in personal injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the Cab Electrical Control Unit to enable the start-in-gear protection feature.

    On certain trucks, an internal defect in the ignition switch can cause the starter to engage when the key is partially inserted. This would allow the engine to start unexpectedly, which could injure someone working in the engine compartment. Also, manual transmission vehicles without the neutral start option may move unexpectedly if the transmission is in gear at the time the key is inserted. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the ignition switch assembly.

    On certain trucks equipped with Bendix ATR-6 Antilock Traction Relay valves, in extremely cold conditions (at or below -18 degrees Celsius), internal ATR valve leakage can occur. This could cause unintended brake application, which could overheat the affected brakes and cause a fire. Also, in certain low traction conditions, unexpected brake application can cause a loss of vehicle control and a crash. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will update the cover assembly on the ATR valves.

    On certain vehicles, the slack adjuster housings may have been manufactured incorrectly, which could allow the housings to fracture and fail. As a result, the wheel brake to which the slack adjuster is attached would no longer function, which could increase vehicle stopping distances. Should a steer axle slack adjuster fail, it could also cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking. Either problem could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the slack adjusters.

    On certain vehicles, one of the harness spade terminal connections to the chassis load center may become completely unseated. An unseated connection may result in a power loss to a portion of the vehicle's exterior lighting, potentially inhibiting the visibility of the operator and/or detection of the vehicle in certain conditions, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the harness and, if necessary, re-seat the female connectors on the male spade terminals.
