Issue: On certain motorcycles, a problem with the camshaft chain tensioner could cause the engine to fail while riding. If this happens, there would be a sudden loss of engine power. Note: This problem may cause an abnormal noise around the right side of the engine before a loss of engine power. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of engine power could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Kawasaki will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the camshaft chain tensioner.

If this happens, you may not be able to see certain information about the motorcycle, including the speed, warnings, and malfunction tell-tales. Corrective Actions: Kawasaki will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to update the multi-function meter software.

This can cause the oil pressure warning light to turn on. If you continue to ride the motorcycle with low oil pressure, the engine could fail. Safety Risk: A sudden engine failure could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Kawasaki will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the engine oil pressure relief valve.

The dealer will replace any components that are damaged, if necessary.

Specifically, this can happen in a situation where the transmission jumps out of gear, and the engine speed increases before a gear is re-engaged. If this happens, the gear could be damaged when it is engaged. This could result in an inability to shift gears or cause a sudden lock up of the rear wheel. Safety Risk: A rear wheel that locks suddenly or an inability to shift gears could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Kawasaki will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to update the engine control unit software.
