  Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the instrument panel cluster to reboot while driving. As a result, you may not be able to see certain information about the vehicle, including the speedometer, fuel gauge, tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), warning lights and malfunction tell-tales. Note : For the Santa Fe model, this recall only affects the hybrid model. For the Palisade model, both gas and hybrid models are affected. For the Tucson model, gas, hybrid and plug-in hybrid (PHEV) models are affected. Safety Risk: Warnings, tell-tales and gauges that don't display could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Hyundai will notify owners in writing and send a wireless over-the-air software update to eligible vehicles to update the instrument panel cluster software. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the update performed at a Hyundai dealership.

If the VPD switch is activated, electricity to the vehicle's electric motor may be disconnected. If this occurs while the vehicle is driven under Electric Vehicle (EV) mode, the vehicle may experience a loss of motive power, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will remove the current VPD switch and install a newly designed battery management system module containing an overvoltage protection device. The corresponding wiring harness will also be installed. Note: This condition would result in the of the “Check Hybrid System" warning light illuminating.

  On certain vehicles equipped with a panoramic sunroof, the wind deflector anchor plate of the sunroof may have insufficient bonding. If the wind deflector becomes partially detached from its mounting points after the sunroof is opened, it can interfere with the moveable sunroof panel while the sunroof is being closed and could allow the glass panel to separate from the vehicle while driving, creating a road hazard which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will repair the wind deflector anchor plate.

  On certain vehicles, the engine crankshaft may not have been properly cleaned to remove metallic debris during manufacturing. If the debris is not completely removed from the crankshaft’s oil passages, it can be forced into the connecting rod oiling passages restricting oil flow to the bearings, increasing the potential of premature bearing wear. If the vehicle continues to be driven with a worn connecting rod bearing, the bearing could fail, which could cause an engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. A worn connecting rod bearing could also result in the illumination of the oil pressure lamp in the instrument cluster. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the engine assembly.   On certain vehicles, if a front inside door lock switch is held in the locked position while the inside door handle is pulled, the door latch inside handle lever may become out of position relative to the door latch master link. If the driver or front seat passenger does not notice that a front door is unlatched, the door may open while the vehicle is being driven, which increases the risk of personal injury or death to the driver or front seat passenger.
