On certain vehicles, an electrical fault in the drive mode switch could result in an incorrect drive direction selection. This could cause the vehicle to be immobile or to move in reverse when forward is selected, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install an improved drive mode switch system. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2016-659. Vehicles repaired as part of the previous recall will require re-inspection and repair.

On certain vehicles equipped with steel wheels, the lug nuts on the front wheels can loosen over time, causing vibration. If this vibration is unnoticed by the operator, and the wheel nuts were to loosen, it could lead to a complete separation of the wheel(s) from the vehicle, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will repair or replace the lug nuts and associated wheels as necessary.

On certain vehicles, the drive mode switch can send an improper electrical signal to the vehicle controller, resulting in an incorrect drive direction selection. When the vehicle is shifted to forward, due increased resistance in the circuit, it may cause the vehicle to controller to shift to reverse. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, potentially resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the drive switch with a new more reliable switch.
