    Issue: On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a Ford dealer during recall 18S07 (Transport Canada recall no. 2018-129) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a 1.0 L or 1.6 L engine and a manual transmission. On certain vehicles, repeated clutch slipping could cause the pressure plate to fracture. If this happens, transmission fluid could leak onto hot components in the engine compartment. Safety Risk: Oil that leaks onto hot components can create the risk of a fire. Additionally, an oil leak could create a hazard for others and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the system software to detect and prevent prolonged clutch slip. For certain vehicles, the dealer will also inspect and, if necessary, replace the clutch assembly.

    This recall was replaced by Transport Canada recall no. 2026-005. Issue: On certain vehicles, the engine block heater could leak coolant. If this happens, the block heater could short circuit when it's plugged in. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, Ford advises you not to use the engine block heater until the recall repairs have been completed. Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the block heater.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, a software problem could cause the rearview camera image not to display when the transmission is shifted into reverse. Canadian regulations require the rearview image to display when the vehicle is reversing. Safety Risk: A rearview camera image that doesn't display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the SYNC software.

    Issue: On certain Fusion Energi plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), the high-voltage battery energy control module could become damaged. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels or the control module could overheat. Safety Risk: A sudden loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A battery energy control module that overheats can create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail. As an interim repair, Ford will advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to install a fuse block for the battery energy control module. The dealer will also update the BECM software. When the final repairs are available, Ford will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the high-voltage battery. To mitigate the safety risk, Ford advises you not to charge your vehicle until the recall repairs are completed.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the front brake hoses could fail and cause a progressive brake fluid leak. If this happens, the driver may experience a change in brake pedal feel and travel. This can cause reduced braking. Note: A brake fluid leak would cause the brake warning light to turn on. This recall doesn't affect models with a Hybrid engine. Vehicles repaired under Ford warranty extension program 22N02 already have updated brake hoses, and don't require this repair. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the front brake hoses.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in Park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission shifter cable bushing and install a protective service cap. Ford advises that you should apply the parking brake each time the vehicle is parked.

    Issue: This recall is for certain vehicles that had the driver-front and/or passenger-front airbag inflator replaced after a collision or theft. An obsolete airbag may have been installed. On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford dealer to inspect the driver and/or passenger airbag inflator or module and replace it, if necessary. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

On these vehicles, the door latches could crack and fail due to exposure to high ambient temperatures. If this happens, a door may not properly latch when it is closed. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the side door latches.

    Issue: On certain cars, a problem with the hydraulic control unit for the anti-lock brake system (ABS) could cause increased brake pedal travel. Safety Risk: Increased brake pedal travel could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to inspect the ABS module assembly. The system will be flushed with DOT 4 brake fluid, and if necessary, the hydraulic control unit will be replaced. Dealers will also replace the DOT 3 reservoir cap with a new DOT 4 cap.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). Safety Risk: A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the bolts and apply a wax sealer. If one or more of the bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed.

    Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the cables that attach the front seat belts could be damaged when the seat belt pretensioners deploy in a crash. As a result, the driver and front passenger seat belts may detach. Note: This an expansion of recall 2016-601. Safety Risk: A seat belt that detaches may not properly restrain an occupant in a crash. This could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to apply a coating to protect the front seat belt pretensioner cables.

    Issue: On certain cars equipped with a 2.5 litre engine, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the car while the transmission is not in Park, and the parking brake is not applied, the car could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the car could increase the risk of a crash. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected. Additional note: This recall supersedes recalls 2016-347 (Ford Safety Improvement Program 16S26), 2017-024 (Ford Recall 17S01) and 2018-035 (Ford Recall 18S01). Vehicles repaired under the previous recalls do not require repair under this recall.

    Certain plug-in hybrid and electric vehicles were supplied with a 120V convenience charge cord that may be susceptible to overheating if there is a poor connection at the electrical outlet. This could result in increased cord temperatures, melting, and an increased risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the factory supplied 120V convenience cord with the latest version of the cord that includes thermal protection.

    On certain vehicles, the bushing that attaches the shift cable to the transmission may degrade over time and could detach. This could allow the transmission to be in a gear state different than the gear shift position selected by the driver. This condition could also allow the driver to move the shifter to Park and remove the ignition key while the transmission gear may not be in Park. If the parking brake is not applied, this could result in unintended vehicle movement, which would increase the risk of crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the shifter cable bushing.

    On certain vehicles, the steering wheel bolt torque retention feature may not fully engage into the steering shaft. If the bolt loosens, the steering wheel may appear to be loose, which could affect vehicle control. If a loose bolt is left unrepaired, the steering wheel may detach from the steering column, which could result in a loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the steering wheel bolt with a longer bolt.

  • Powertrain#2018129

    On certain vehicles equipped with 1.0L GTDI or 1.6L GTDI engines and manual transmissions, repeated high energy clutch slip can lead to premature clutch lining wear, reducing the mechanical properties of pressure plate material. Prolonged use, with a slipping clutch, could result in pressure plate fracture, which could cause breach of the clutch cover and transmission housing, potentially leading to a transmission fluid leak. A transmission fluid leak, in the presence of an ignition source, could increase the risk of a fire. Correction: Dealers will evaluate the clutch for wear and replace as needed and will install updated software that will detect and prevent prolonged clutch slip. For the Fusion model, dealers will replace the clutch assembly.

    On certain vehicles equipped with the 2.0l engine coupled to a 6 speed automatic transmission, the torque converter could separate from the engine flex plate due to inadequate welds on the attachment studs. If this occurs, this would result in a sudden loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the torque converter.

    On certain vehicles equipped with 1.6L GTDI engines, low coolant level could lead to localized overheating of the cylinder head, which could cause a fire. This could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a coolant level sensor and supporting hardware and software. Note: Until repair parts are available, owners should regularly check engine coolant level and top up as necessary. Also note for Fiesta, only the ST model vehicles are affected.

    On certain vehicles, the door latches may have a broken pawl spring tab. This could result in the door not latching correctly. As a result, doors which appear to be latched could unlatch while driving. This could increase the risk of injury to a vehicle occupant seated next to the door, or result in damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace all four door latches with a more robust part. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2015-175.

  • Seats And Restraints#2016602

    On certain vehicles, the left rear seat back frame may have insufficient weld penetration between the pivot bracket and the pivot pin due to an error during welding setup. Improperly welded seat back pivot pins may not adequately retain items in the luggage compartment in a crash, which could increase the risk of injury to a rear seat occupant. Correction: Dealers will replace the left hand second row seat back frame.

    On certain vehicles, deployment of the driver or front passenger seatbelt pretensioner in a crash may generate internal pretensioner temperatures that can degrade the tensile strength of the outboard seat belt anchor cable. This could result in the seat belt not adequately restraining the seat occupant in a crash, increasing the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will apply a coating to protect the pretensioner's cables.

    Ford Canada is conducting a voluntary Safety Improvement Program involving passenger airbag inflators in certain vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in certain high humidity areas of the United States equipped with Takata airbags. Ford will replace the driver or passenger inflator on affected vehicles, depending on the vehicle involved. Owners who believe their vehicles may have been originally purchased or registered in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands should contact a Ford dealer.     Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. Some vehicles equipped with LED headlamps were built with defective support brackets which can cause the daytime running lamp light guide to shift out of design position. If this occurs, the support bracket can melt due to the increased exposure to the LED light energy. This can cause melted material to partially block the end of the light guide, subsequently causing a loss of lighting performance which could result in failure to meet the daytime running lamp light output requirements of the standard. This could result in the vehicle being less visible to other drivers, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace both headlamp assemblies.

    On certain vehicles equipped with Canister Purge Valves (CPV's), the valve may not operate properly. This could result in pressure changes inside the fuel tank which may result in a fatigue crack in the upper surface of the metal fuel tank, resulting in seepage of fuel, or fuel vapor. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect the canister purge valve and tank.

    Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 301 – Fuel System Integrity. The affected vehicles may have a fuel tank that was not manufactured to specification and may cause the vehicle to fail to meet the requirements of the standard. Improperly manufactured fuel tanks have thin walls that may crack if the vehicle is involved in a crash, which could result in a fuel leak. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel tank.

    On certain vehicles, a fault in the Electric Power Steering (EPS) system could result in an immediate loss of power steering assist without warning to the driver. This would unexpectedly increase the steering effort force necessary to steer the vehicle at lower vehicle speeds, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will affect repairs as necessary and will reprogram the EPS controller with updated software. In the event that an EPS fault occurs, this updated software would allow for continued EPS function while displaying visual and audible warnings to the driver until the end of the drive cycle.

    On certain vehicles registered and operated in areas where road salt is used on the roadways during winter months for extended time periods (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador), corrosion may occur at the steering gear motor attachment bolts. Steering gear motor detachment from the gear housing could result in sudden loss of steering power assist. This would cause the Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control malfunction indicator lamps to illuminate. A vehicle experiencing a loss of steering power assist would revert to a manual steering mode which would require greater driver effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. A loss of steering power assist could ultimately result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will apply sealer and replace the steering gear motor attachment bolts as required. If one or more of the steering gear motor attachment bolds are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle.

On vehicles equipped with a mechanical ignition key and dual screen cluster, 30 minutes after the ignition is turned off, the body control module could allow the key to be removed when the transmission is not in park, contrary to the requirements of the standard. This could result in a rollaway event if the vehicle was left unattended with the vehicle not in Park and the parking brake not applied, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the instrument cluster.

    On certain vehicles, sealant applied to the restraints control module could fail, allowing moisture to enter the module circuit board. This could cause corrosion to form, which will illuminate the airbag warning light and could affect restraint system function, potentially disabling airbags or other safety systems. This could increase the risk of injury to vehicle occupants in a crash where airbag deployment is warranted. Correction: Dealers will replace the restraints control module.

    A safety defect may exist in Ford aftermarket all-weather floor mats sold as accessories or service replacement parts for 2006-2011 Ford Fusion, Lincoln Zephyr, and Lincoln MKZ vehicles. The floor mats are secured by a single retention device, which could allow the driver's floor mat to move out of position and interfere with the accelerator pedal.  If this occurs, the accelerator pedal could fail to return to idle.  This could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage.  Correction: Dealers will replace Ford aftermarket all-weather floor mats with an updated design having two retention devices.

    Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 207 – Anchorage of Seats. The front driver and passenger seatback recliner mechanism may separate from the seatback frame due to improper welding. If this were to occur, the seatback could become noisy, loose or begin leaning and could fail to meet the strength requirements of the standard. This could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the seatback assemblies.

    Certain vehicles equipped with 1.6L engines may experience a fire originating in the engine compartment, while the engine is running, caused by the engine overheating that results in flammable fluid leaks coming into contact with the hot exhaust system. This could result in property damage and/or injury. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the Powertrain Control Module and the Instrument Panel Cluster module to improve the system’s ability to detect and mitigate an overheating condition. Dealers will also inspect for coolant leaks and make any necessary corrections.

Over time, this could cause the coating to become hazy, reducing the brightness of the low beam lamps. Correction: Dealers will replace the headlamp assemblies.

    On certain vehicles, the 17 inch steel wheels, whether factory installed or sold as accessory replacement parts, may experience a reduction in wheel stud clamp load. This can cause wheel stud failure, which could result in wheel separation. A wheel separating from the vehicle could cause a loss of control and a crash. In addition, the errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, a stationary object, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the lug nuts on all four wheels. They will also inspect the rear brake rotors and replace them as necessary.

If the pin not installed properly, the park rod guide may become displaced, preventing the transmission park pawl from engaging when shifted into "PARK". Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, install the missing park rod guide retention pin.

    On certain vehicles, the manual recliner mechanisms may have a gear plate teeth out of dimensional specifications, which could result in limited pawl to gear plate tooth engagement and create additional movement to the seat back. Correction: Dealers will replace the front seat manual recliner mechanism(s).
