Safety Risk: An engine failure could cause a sudden loss of power to the wheels and increase the risk of a crash.     Issue: On certain vehicles, the shift cable may detach from the transmission. This could cause the transmission not to shift gears when the shifter is moved. As a result, the transmission could be in a different gear than the gear shifter indicates. If a driver attempts to exit the vehicle while the transmission is not in Park, and the parking brake is not applied, the vehicle could move suddenly. Safety Risk: Sudden and unexpected movement of the vehicle could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to replace the transmission shifter cable bushing and install a protective service cap. Ford advises that you should apply the parking brake each time the vehicle is parked.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, may eventually degrade the propellant contained in the driver-front airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. If the airbag inflator ruptures, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants or cause damage to the airbag assembly, preventing its proper function. Safety Risk: If the vehicle is involved in a crash requiring an airbag deployment, the airbag inflator could rupture and create a risk of injury. Corrective Action: Ford will notify owners by mail. The corrective actions for this recall are under development. Note: The Canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. This recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk. It is expected that all airbag inflators will be replaced before their function would be affected.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the rear drive unit was not properly filled with oil. As a result, the rear axle could seize. If this happens, the rear wheels could lock up and cause a loss of power to the wheels. Safety Risk: A rear-wheel lock up while driving could cause a loss of control that could result in a crash. Corrective Actions: Ford will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to check the oil level in the rear drive unit. If the drive unit is filled to the minimum oil level, it will be topped up to the full level. If the oil is below the minimum level, the drive unit will be replaced.

    Issue: On certain vehicles, the bolts that attach the electric power steering assist motor to the steering gear may corrode and break. This could cause a loss of power steering assist. This recall applies to vehicles originally sold or currently registered in areas of heavy road salt usage (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Newfoundland & Labrador). Safety Risk: A loss of power steering assist may result in a sudden increase in steering effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. This could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a Ford or Lincoln dealer to replace the bolts and apply a wax sealer. If one or more of the bolts are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed.

    Certain vehicles may not conform to Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 206 - Door Lock and Door Retention Components. The bolts attaching the door striker to the vehicle body may be too short. This could result in the door opening in a crash, increasing the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace all door striker bolts.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the alternator and starter motor power supply cable nuts and studs for cross threading or damage, and verify the nuts are tightened to specification.

    On certain vehicles equipped with the 2.0l engine coupled to a 6 speed automatic transmission, the torque converter could separate from the engine flex plate due to inadequate welds on the attachment studs. If this occurs, this would result in a sudden loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the torque converter. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2017-332.

    Certain ACDelco Advantage wheel hub spindles, manufactured by Bearing Technologies Ltd., contain a defect which may affect vehicle safety. The spindles have studs with oversized protruding shoulders that may make assembling the part difficult with certain aftermarket brake rotors (original equipment rotors are not affected). If this difficulty in assembly is not heeded, the defect may cause a vibration of the vehicle or wobbling of the wheel on which the hub is installed. If a driver does not stop the vehicle, this may lead to a loss of vehicle control. Affected parts are ACDelco Advantage wheel hub spindles, Part No. 19360602 (BR930676K), sold between November 21, 2016 and October 2, 2017. Parts manufactured with these studs have any of the following LOT codes etched on the face of the spindle: FH38, FJ38, FN38, FP38, FS38, FV38, FY38, FZ38, and HC38. These parts fit exclusively on the models listed in this notice. Correction: Bearing Tech will provide customers with a replacement ACDelco Advantage wheel spindle, Part No. 19385577 (518517). Owners should contact Bearing Tech at 800-677-3477 or send an email to recall@brgtec.com Note: This campaign is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act.

The windshield header portion of the body’s sheet metal may be missing welds. This could result in reduced lateral structural integrity, and may fail to meet the requirements of the standard, which could increase the risk of injury in a side impact crash. Correction: Dealers will repair the windshield header.

    Certain vehicles may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts. Certain driver frontal airbag modules may have been assembled incorrectly. In the event of a crash warranting deployment of the driver's frontal airbag, the airbag may not completely fill, or the airbag cushion may detach from the airbag module, which would not protect the driver as expected, and could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the driver's frontal airbag.

    Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 126 - Electronic Stability Control Systems. Vehicles that were brought to a dealer for service may have received an incorrect software update for the Antilock Brake System Stability Control system. The incorrect software disables the engine torque control of the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) system, and if a fault were to occur in the stability control system, including Antilock Brake System (ABS), Traction Control (T/C), and ESC, no warning lamp/indicator would be displayed to the driver. Additionally, no warning lamp/indicator would be displayed when traction control is disabled, or when the Electric Parking Brake (EPB) is applied. A lack of visual warning to indicate these systems are not functioning would be contrary to the requirements of the standard, and could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the ABS module to correct the non-compliance. Until this software is available, dealers will replace the ABS module.

    Ford Canada is conducting a voluntary Safety Improvement Program involving passenger airbag inflators in certain vehicles that were originally sold or ever registered in certain high humidity areas of the United States equipped with Takata airbags. Ford will replace the driver or passenger inflator on affected vehicles, depending on the vehicle involved. Owners who believe their vehicles may have been originally purchased or registered in the states of New Jersey, Delaware, District of Columbia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Tennessee, North Carolina, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico, California, Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, South Carolina, Florida, Hawaii, Puerto Rico or the U.S. Virgin Islands should contact a Ford dealer. This action is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Note: This Safety Improvement Program is superseded by recall 2019005 (Ford Recall 19S01).     On certain vehicles registered and operated in areas where road salt is used on the roadways during winter months for extended time periods (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador), corrosion may occur underneath the fuel tank mounting reinforcement brackets at the weld seam. This could result in a small hole to form in the fuel tank resulting in a fuel vapour leak or fuel leak. A malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) may illuminate, and/or fuel odour or liquid fuel may be observed. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, repair or replace the fuel tank. Note: This recall is an expansion of recall 2014-482.

    On certain vehicles registered and operated in areas where road salt is used on the roadways during winter months for extended time periods (Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island and Newfoundland-Labrador), corrosion may occur at the steering gear motor attachment bolts. Steering gear motor detachment from the gear housing could result in sudden loss of steering power assist. This would cause the Electronic Stability Control and Traction Control malfunction indicator lamps to illuminate. A vehicle experiencing a loss of steering power assist would revert to a manual steering mode which would require greater driver effort, especially at low vehicle speeds. A loss of steering power assist could ultimately result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will apply sealer and replace the steering gear motor attachment bolts as required. If one or more of the steering gear motor attachment bolds are broken or missing, a new steering gear will be installed in the vehicle.

    On certain vehicles, improper nickel plating of certain fuel pump internal components could contaminate the pump, potentially resulting in an inoperative fuel pump. This could result in a no-start condition, or an engine stall without warning and without the ability to restart the vehicle, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace the Fuel Delivery Module (FDM).

    On certain vehicles, the right-side halfshaft retention clip may not have been fully engaged, and could allow the halfshaft to separate. If this were to occur while the vehicle is being driven, it could result in a loss of motive power. If this were to occur while the vehicle is parked on an incline without the parking brake applied, it could result in unintended vehicle movement. Both situations could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect halfshafts for full retention and affect repairs as necessary.

    On certain vehicles equipped with a 2.0L engine, the fuel line pulse damper may have been manufactured incorrectly and could develop cracks. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel line assembly. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2012-299 (12S40). Vehicles that were repaired under the previous campaign will also need to be repaired under this campaign.

    Certain vehicles may have control module settings that disable the locking function for the liftgate. Technical Standards Document No. 206 S4.3 requires that that each door, including liftgates, be equipped with a locking device. Correction: Dealers will update the control modules.
