Issue: On certain school buses, the restraining barriers may deform in a crash. This problem only affects 39 inch (99 cm) restraining barriers built by HSM, with model number FB11-39. Safety Risk: A restraining barrier that fails in a crash could increase the risk of injury to occupants. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail. Restraining barriers will be made stronger with a reinforcement bracket. Owners will be provided with instructions for installing the bracket.

The thickness of the foam in the knee impact area of the lower seatback is insufficient, which could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will modify the seat to meet the requirements of the standard.

Certain school bus seat bottom assemblies may contain a foam core that does not meet the requirements of the standard. As a result the seat components could burn faster than allowable by the standard, which could increase the risk of injury in the event of a fire. Correction: Dealers will replace the seat bottom assembly.

This could increase stopping distances, possibly resulting in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, relocate the brake line.

On certain school buses and multi-function school activity buses, the body mount bolts may not have received adequate tightening torque during vehicle assembly. Bolts not adequately secured could compromise the integrity of the body to chassis mounting. In the event of a crash, this could increase the risk of personal injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will tighten the body mount bolts to the prescribed torque.
