Issue: On certain motorcycles, the reverse gear control unit may not have been sealed properly. As a result, water could enter the control unit and cause it to corrode. If this happens, the control unit could short circuit and overheat. This could also cause the turn signals and reverse function not to work. Safety Risk: A short circuit can create the risk of a fire. Turn signals that don't work may cause a person not to recognize when the rider intends to turn or change lanes and could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the reverse gear control unit.

If this happens while riding, there could be a sudden loss of stability. Safety Risk: A loss of stability could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the front spring strut.

Certain motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards (CMVSS) 1106 - Noise Emissions. The wrong exhaust silencer was installed during manufacturing, which results in the exhaust system failing to comply with the standard. Correction: Dealers will install an exhaust silencer compliant with the Canadian standard.

On certain motorcycles, cracks could develop in the fuel pump and/or auxiliary fuel pump flange (if equipped). This would result in fuel leaking when the engine is turned on and the fuel system is pressurized. Leaking fuel, in the presence of an ignition source, could lead to a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel pump flange(s) and install a reinforcing ring or replace the fuel pump(s), as necessary.

Engine stalling would result in a loss of motive power, which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the rider's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury.
