Issue: On certain motorcycles, the engine side cover may not be properly machined. As a result, a lack of proper lubrication can result in severe engine damage that could cause the engine to stall or seize. Safety Risk: An engine that stalls or seizes can cause a loss of control and create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Yamaha will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to have the crankcase cover inspected by removing the oil filter. If the cover was not properly machined, it must be replaced. Yamaha advises that you should only ride your motorcycle to the dealership to be inspected. You should avoid riding your motorcycle until you can get it to the dealer to have this inspection performed.
