  • Wheels#2020056

    600 units affected

Issue: Certain brush chipper trailers were built with wheels that have an incorrect wheel nut contact area. As a result, the wheel nuts could loosen over time and fall off. The wheels can also develop possible cracks causing the tire to lose air pressure. If either of these conditions happen, a wheel could separate from the trailer. Safety Risk: A wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from the trailer could create a hazard for the towing vehicle occupants and other drivers and nearby people. Corrective Actions: For brush chippers manufactured between August 1, 2016, and February 7, 2020: Vermeer will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your brush chipper to a dealer to inspect the wheels and replace them, if necessary. A new safety sign (warning label), tire/wheel specification label and a supplemental operator's and maintenance manual will also be provided. For certain brush chippers manufactured between 2006 and August 1, 2016 that had a replacement wheel(s) installed: Vermeer will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to check the trailer for defective wheels. If you have not already done so, you should complete the provided inspection form return it (with photos) to: safetyform@vermeer.com. After you have submitted this form, you should contact your dealer to have a new safety sign (warning label) installed and receive a supplemental operator's and maintenance manual. If the brush chipper has the defective wheels, they will be replaced. Note: All owners should continue to inspect and tighten the wheel nuts and check tire air pressure on a daily basis, or at a minimum every 250 kilometers until the final repair has been performed.

  • Lights And Instruments#2015507

    1,307 units affected

Certain brush chipper and stump cutter units may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retro reflective Devices. During manufacturing, the side marker LED lights installed did not include a reflex reflector built into the lens and no other reflex reflectors were installed on the sides of the trailers, which fails to meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install separate reflectors with SAE (A) marking or LED side marker lights with reflex reflectors with an SAE (A) rated lens.

  • Structure#2012258

    316 units affected

On certain units, the axle to frame mounting bolts were improperly tightened during assembly and could loosen. This could cause the axle to shift or become separated from the trailer chassis, resulting in poor vehicle handling characteristics or a loss of control increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace axle mounting hardware and tighten to specification.

  • Wheels#2011248

    13 units affected

Certain trailer-mounted brush chipper units were equipped with incorrect wheel lug nuts during the assembly process. These incorrect nuts may loosen, which could damage the wheel disc and allow the wheel to separate. A wheel separating from the trailer could cause a loss of control and a crash. In addition, the errant wheel assembly could strike a vehicle, property, or a bystander. These issues could result in property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace the wheel lug nuts.

  • EXTERIOR LIGHTING#15V575000

Vermeer Manufacturing Company (Vermeer) is recalling certain model year 2008-2016 Vermeer BC1000XL, 2013-2016 BC700XL, 2012-2016 BC900XL, 2009-2016 BC1200XL, 2003-2016 BC1800XL, 2005-2014 BC600XL, 2005-2016 SC802 and 2005-2013 SC602 Brush Chippers and Stump Cutters. These models have LED side markers lights that do not have reflectors built into the lenses, reducing the visibility of the vehicle. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, " Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

Risk: The absence of reflectors could reduce the ability for others to see the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Remedy: Vermeer will notify owners, and will supply reflective decals to be installed on the trailer sides, free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2015. Owners may contact Vermeer customer service at 1-800-829-0051 or by email at productsafety@vermeer.com.

  • EQUIPMENT#12V375000

Vermeer is recalling certain model year 2009-2012 single axle brush chipper trailers because the axle mounting bolts could loosen, leading to axle separation from the brush chipper.

Risk: If the axle separates from the brush chipper, there is an increased risk of a crash.

Remedy: Vermeer will notify owners, and dealers will replace the mounting bolts, free of charge. The recall began ion August 21, 2012. Owners may contact Vermeer at 641-628-3141.

  • WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS/STUDS#11V262000

VERMEER IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2009-2011 BC1200XL SINGLE AXLE BRUSH CHIPPER TRAILERS MANUFACTURED FROM JULY 24, 2009, THROUGH FEBRUARY 14, 2011. DURING THE ASSEMBLY PROCESS THE INCORRECT LUG NUTS WERE INSTALLED ON WHEELS FOR THE 285/75/R16 FLOTATION TIRE OPTION. THESE INCORRECT LUG NUTS MAY LOOSEN, SINCE THE LUG NUTS DO NOT MATCH THE COUNTERSINK HOLES IN THE WHEEL DISC.

Risk: LOOSE LUG NUTS CAN DAMAGE THE WHEEL DISC AND RESULT IN WHEEL SEPARATION FROM THE TRAILER, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LUG NUTS FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR ABOUT JUNE 1, 2011. OWNERS MAY CONTACT VERMEER AT 1-641-628-3141.
