If this happens, the backup lamps will not turn on when the transmission is shifted into reverse and the shift position will not display. Additionally, for vehicles equipped with a rearview camera, the camera image will not appear on the display in the instrument cluster. Safety Risk: Backup lamps that do not work properly could cause a person not to recognize that the vehicle is backing. A rearview camera image that does not display could reduce a driver's ability to see behind the vehicle while backing up. These issues could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Subaru will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect, and if necessary, replace the backup lamp switch.
