05- Brakes#2023512
95 units affected
Issue: On certain emergency vehicles, the inversion valve in the air brake system may not work properly. As a result, there could be a delay before the parking brake applies. If this happens, the vehicle could move unexpectedly. This issue also causes the vehicle not to meet the requirements of the Canadian regulations. Safety Risk: A delay before the parking brake applies could result in unintended vehicle movement, and create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify the owners by mail and arrange for an inspection of the inversion valve. If the valve is not certified, it will be replaced.
- Powertrain#2023126
18 units affected
Issue: On certain fire trucks, the transmission control module (TCM) may not be programmed correctly. As a result, the pump mode may not engage properly, and the truck may not pump water. Safety Risk: A fire pump that doesn't work could cause a lack of water pressure for fighting fires. This could delay emergency response and increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to an Allison Transmission service center to reprogram the TCM.
- Steering#2022603
44 units affected
Issue: On certain emergency vehicles, the tie rod end clamps could crack and loosen. If this happens, the threads on the tie rod end could become damaged and the tie rod end could separate. This could cause a loss of steering control. Safety Risk: A loss of steering control could create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify the owners by mail and instruct you to contact Meritor to arrange for replacement of the tie rod end clamps.
- Electrical#2022275
13 units affected
Issue: On certain fire trucks, there could be a problem with the circuit board for the electrical multiplex module (Weldon V-Mux Hercules HC 1.5 node). This could cause some vehicle systems not to work properly, including the headlamps and taillamps. Safety Risk: A loss of lighting could cause reduced visibility and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan Fire will notify owners by mail and provide a replacement electrical multiplex module and instructions for how to install it.
- Powertrain#2021737
36 units affected
Issue: On certain emergency vehicles, there may be a defect in the rear axle drive pinion that could cause it to break. If this happens, the air brake line could be damaged and cause the parking brakes to apply suddenly. Note: This recall only affects emergency vehicles equipped with certain 180-series Meritor axles. Safety Risk: A parking brake that self-applies while driving could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, if a following driver does not recognize when a vehicle ahead is braking, there could also be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Spartan will notify owners by mail and instruct you to contact a dealership or repair facility, who must contact Meritor's Technical Call Center to verify if the truck is affected by this campaign. The differential carrier assembly will be replaced, if necessary.
