Issue: On certain motorcycles, the brake calipers could corrode over time. If this happens, the brakes could start to drag, which may cause them to overheat. Overheated brakes could lead to reduced braking. Note: Dragging brakes could make noise when applied and create unusual odors or a burning smell. You may also notice reduced acceleration and the motorcycle can be more difficult to push manually. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause an extended stopping distance and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: Royal Enfield will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealership to replace the front and rear brake calipers. Until the recall repairs are completed, you should inspect your motorcycle before each ride to ensure that the brakes are not dragging.

Royal Enfield North America Limited (Royal Enfield) is recalling certain 2017-2021 Himalayan motorcycles. The salt used to treat the roads in the winter may corrode the brake calipers, causing a decrease or total loss of brake function.
Risk: A loss of brake function can increase the risk of a crash.
Remedy: Dealers will replace the front and rear brake calipers, free of charge. The manufacturer has not yet provided a schedule for recall notification. Owners may contact Royal Enfield's customer service at 1-866-600-1122. Royal Enfield's number for this recall is SC-31.
