Issue: This recall is for aftermarket replacement rear window glass produced by Vitro Automotriz. Certain rear window glass may not have been properly tempered. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019. This information is printed on the bottom corner of the glass. Consumers should contact Vitro's customer service at 1-412-995-6457 or argbacklites@vitro.com to arrange for replacement of the glass.
- Fuel System#2018122
105,028 units affected
On certain vehicles, the front fuel tank strap may become loose or detached due to corrosion of the frame bracket. This could result in the front of the fuel tank to lower, potentially allowing the front of the tank to make contact with the ground, which could increase the risk of a fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a reinforcement bracket onto the frame.
- Powertrain#2017659
290,200 units affected
On certain vehicles equipped with a steering column gear shifter, the brake transmission shift interlock (BTSI) may become inoperative. This could allow the steering column gear shifter lever to be shifted out of the PARK (P) position without depressing the service brake pedal or having the key in the ignition, which could result in unintended vehicle movement, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect and replace the BTSI as necessary. The Body Control Module (BCM) will also be updated.
- Fuel System#2014449
59,432 units affected
On certain vehicles equipped with 6.7L diesel engines, an electrical connection at the fuel heater could overheat, potentially rendering the heater inoperative and causing a fuel leak and fuel odour. Fuel leakage, in the presence of an ignition source, could result in a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the fuel heater, and replace it if required, as well as replace the fuel heater wiring harness electrical connector.
- Steering#2013397
48,517 units affected
On certain 2008-2012 Ram 2500 and 3500 4x4, Ram 3500 cab chassis, and 2008 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4 vehicles, the left outer tie rod ball stud could fracture, potentially resulting in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will install a redesigned left outer tie rod assembly. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2011-253 (L16). Vehicles that were repaired under the previous campaign will also need to be repaired under this campaign.
- Steering#2013396
6,674 units affected
Certain Ram 4500 and 5500 four wheel drive vehicles may experience a fracture of the ball stud on the left outer tie rod assembly, potentially resulting in a loss of vehicle control and a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: As an interim repair, dealers will align the left tie rod end. Dealers will install a redesigned left outer tie rod assembly once parts are available. Note: This recall supersedes recall 2010-465 (K28). Vehicles that were repaired under the previous campaign will also need to be repaired under this campaign.
- Powertrain#2013044
63,201 units affected
On certain vehicles, the rear axle pinion nut could loosen and allow the rear driveshaft to detach from the axle, or fully detach from the vehicle. Pinion nut separation could also cause the rear axle differential to fail suddenly, causing rear wheel lockup. These issues could result in loss of propulsion, danger to other road users, loss of vehicle control and possible crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a pinion nut retainer.
- Steering#2011253
49,800 units affected
On certain 2008-2011 Ram 2500 and 3500 4x4, Ram 3500 cab chassis 4x2 and 4x4, and 2008 Ram 1500 Mega Cab 4x4 vehicles, the left outer tie rod ball stud could fracture. Additionally, other 2003-2008 Ram vehicles may have received the affected tie rod as a replacement part during service, and are therefore also involved in this campaign. Although this condition tends to occur when making a tight turn during low speed parking lot type maneuvers, tie rod failure could result in a loss of directional stability. A loss of steering control could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the left outer tie rod end and tighten the track bar bolt. Note: The tie rod replacement portion of this recall was superseded by recall 2013-396.
- Powertrain#2010466
15,448 units affected
On certain vehicles, the specified nominal volume of 2.1L (71 oz) of lube oil in the rear axle may not prove sufficient. As such the vehicle could experience a noise (growl, grind) from the rear axle bearing, which could eventually seize. This could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will install a rear axle pinion bearing fluid drain-back flow restrictor and a new axle cover with a revised fluid fill level access hole.
- Steering#2010359
5,860 units affected
Certain vehicles may experience a separation at the crimped end of the power steering pressure hose assembly, resulting in power steering fluid leakage which could cause a fire. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the power steering pressure hoses.
- Label#2010358
66 units affected
On certain vehicles, the certification label and/or supplemental tire pressure information labels may have been printed with incorrect information. The certification labels may include an over-stated and an under-stated front/rear axle capacities. The supplemental tire pressure labels incorrectly states a rear seating capacity of zero (0) when it should read three (3). Incorrect information on the certification label could lead to the vehicle being loaded improperly, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: New labels will be provided to the owners of vehicle affected by this recall. They can install it themselves or have a dealer do for them.
