  • Seats And Restraints#2026116

    1,620 units affected

Issue: On certain school buses, the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system may not have been installed properly. As a result, the tie-downs may not lock correctly and could detach in a crash. Note: This recall only affects certain school buses equipped with a Q'Straint Slide N' Click wheelchair restraint system. Safety Risk: Tie-downs that detach in a crash could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect and, if necessary, secure the anchor screw caps for the wheelchair restraint system. Alternatively, you may schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed at a Micro Bird dealership.

  • Structure#2024370

    9,152 units affected

Issue: On certain school buses, the exterior handle for the rear emergency door may not be strong enough. As a result, the handle could break and cause the emergency door not to be able to be opened from the outside. Safety Risk: A door that can't be opened could slow your exit from the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency responders from entering the bus. Both issues could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your school bus to a dealership to replace the rear emergency door exterior handle.

  • Electrical#2022218

    5,975 units affected

Issue: On certain school buses, an unused wiring harness located in the B-pillar area could become damaged. If this happens, the wires could short circuit. Note: This recall only affects school buses built on a General Motors chassis. Safety Risk: A short circuit could create the risk of a fire. Corrective Actions: Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect the wiring and correct this problem.

  • Structure#2021435

    8,286 units affected

Issue: On certain school buses, the service door may not be adjusted correctly. As a result, the door panels may get stuck when the emergency release handle is used, or may not open when force is applied to the door. Additionally, the exterior emergency release handle may not allow the service door to be opened from outside of the bus. Safety Risk: A door that cannot be opened could delay exiting the bus in an emergency. This could also delay emergency response. Both of these issues could increase the risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Micro Bird will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your bus to a dealer to adjust the service door. Alternatively, Micro Bird will provide owners instructions on how to correctly adjust the service door.

  • Structure#2017631

    7 units affected

Certain school buses built on a Ford or GM chassis may fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 220 – Rollover Protection. The downward vertical movement of the roof structure of the vehicle may be higher than the requirements of the standard, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a rollover. Correction: Dealers will add a reinforcement plate to the front structure to meet the requirements of the standard.

  • Accessories#2015569

    27 units affected

On certain school buses equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift, the lift platform sides may crack, which could cause the lift to lean against the vehicle door(s) and potentially fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, putting the lift operator at risk of injury. Correction: Owners will be provided with inspection and repair instructions, as well as necessary repair parts.

  • Other#2014452

    27 units affected

On certain school buses equipped with a Ricon wheelchair lift, the lift platform sides may crack, which could cause the lift to lean against the vehicle door(s) and potentially fall out of the vehicle when the doors are opened, putting the lift operator at risk of injury. Correction: Ricon Corporation repair facilities will inspect lift platforms for cracks and repair as necessary, and install a repair kit.

  • Label#2013366

    41 units affected

On certain school buses, the compliance label contains incorrect vehicle type information. Correction: Owners will be provided with labels and installation instructions.

  • Structure#2011438

    332 units affected

On certain school buses, a joint in the ceiling sheet metal fails to conform to the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 221 - School Bus Body Joint Strength. The size of the hemming and the location of the glue have altered the joint strength of the panels. In the event of a crash, the ceiling panel may separate from the vehicle structure, which could increase the risk of personal injury to vehicle occupants. Correction: Dealers will install a junction plate over the ceiling panel joint.

  • Electrical#2011295

    587 units affected

On certain school buses, the wiring harness for the flashing lights (used while passengers are boarding or leaving the vehicle) may be undersized and could fail. Failure of the lights to illuminate would render a stopped bus less visible to other road users, which could increase the risk of a child or pedestrian being struck by a passing motorist, causing personal injury or death. Correction: Dealers will add a 14-gauge wiring harness and relay between the switch and control board.

  • Electrical#2011219

    96 units affected

On certain school buses, the wiring harness (located behind the driver's seat) may chafe against a moulding and become damaged. An electrical short could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will modify the floor section and re-secure the wiring harness.

  • Other#2010275

    673 units affected

Certain vehicles equipped with "t-slider" and panoramic type push-out windows with 2 release handles (one on each side) fail to comply with Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standards 217 - Bus Window Retention, Release and Emergency Exits. In the event of a crash, the emergency exit could not sufficiently restrain the occupants or become inoperable. Occupants could be thrown from the vehicle or unable to open the emergency exits, which could cause injury or death. Correction: Dealers will add 5 screws to each side of the window frame in order to minimize bending of the window frame.

  • Seats And Restraints#2010132

    507 units affected

On certain buses, the passenger seats may not comply with the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 222 - School Bus Passenger Seating and Crash Protection. During a crash, the seat may not absorb enough energy and restrain the passengers as required by the Standard, which could result in personal injury or death to the occupants. Correction: Dealers will install a bracket to the aisle side of the seat frames.

  • Other#2010090

    10 units affected

On certain school buses, the Ricon lift for public use "model-L" Series S K may be defective. These lifts are designed to rise and stop automatically at the vehicle floor level as the operator presses the "UP" button. However, if the operator releases the "UP" button before the lift has stopped by itself, the elevator may continue to rise and eventually store itself which can tilt the platform prematurely. This situation could cause personal injury to a person riding on the platform. Correction: New software will be provided and installed.

  • Other#2010089

    51 units affected

On certain vehicles equipped with a Ricon F9 series cassette wheelchair lift, an improperly manufactured switch in the wheelchair lift restraint buckle may allow operation of the lift with the safety belt not fully latched. If the belt is not properly fastened, a wheelchair may not be adequately protected against unwanted movement, resulting a fall risk, potentially causing serious injury or death. Correction: The manufacturer will provide instructional information and warning decals.
