    Issue: On certain trucks, the warning light for the tractor anti-lock brake system (ABS) may not turn on if the system loses power. If this happens, the driver will not get warning that the ABS is not working properly. Note: This problem would also cause the traction control (TC) and electronic stability control (ESC) lights not to turn on. Safety Risk: If a driver is not warned that the ABS is not working properly, there could be an increased risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to update the software for the cab control module (CECU).

    On certain trucks with an ISX15 engine and a 1.9 M cab, the engine wiring harness is missing circuits to allow the illumination of Check (CEL) and Stop (SEL) Engine Lamps and sounding of the Stop Engine Alarm. A failure to notify the operator of a serious engine problem may result in an engine failure without warning, and loss of motive power while the vehicle is in motion, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will inspect and/or test the engine harness for the missing circuits, and if found missing, an overlay jumper harness will be installed.

    Certain vehicles may fail to conform to the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 121 - Air Brake Systems and CMVSS 136 - Electronic Stability Control Systems for Heavy Vehicles. In the event that the anti-lock brake system (ABS) loses battery and/or ignition power to the controller, the ABS indicator lamp may not illuminate to warn the driver of the loss of ABS, which is contrary to the requirements of the standards. This could result in the loss of ABS function with no warning to the driver, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will reprogram the cab control module.

    On certain vehicles, the castellated nut and cotter pin on the steer axle may not have been tightened to specification. This could cause the tie rod to become loose in the steer axle, which would result in audible noise and/or looseness in steering. If the vehicle were continued to be operated in this condition, the tie rod could disconnect from the knuckle, resulting in a complete loss of control of a vehicle wheel, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the torque of the castellated nuts on the tie rod, and replace the tie rod stud and knuckle as necessary.

    Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. Forward lighting could be temporarily lost when switching from low beams to high beams due to a delay in activation of the high beams. Although low beam functionality returns if the operator switches back to low beams, the temporary is contrary to the requirements of the standard, and would reduce driver visibility, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will modify the wiring harness.

    On certain vehicles equipped with a Cummins engine, the Engine Control Module (ECM) could develop an internal electrical short circuit that could blow a fuse in the ECM’s electrical supply circuit. This could result in an unexpected engine stall without the ability to restart the engine, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will replacing the existing, affected ECM with a new ECM.

    Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 - Air Brake Systems. The two service brake connections of the SR-7 spring brake valve assembly that provide the valve with feedback from the primary and secondary service brake applications may have been reversed during installation. Although the SR-7 valve would still function properly if there were normal reservoir pressure, in the event of a failure in the primary or secondary circuit, the redundant circuit would not provide adequate service brake functionality, and the vehicle would fail to meet the emergency brake system performance standard. This could result in reduced braking performance which could result in a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect, remove and reconnect the air lines to the correct port of the SR-7 valve.

    On certain vehicles equipped with Cummins Westport ISL-G engines, excessive engine crankcase pressure could cause the vent tube assembly elbow to detach from the breather. This could allow engine oil to come in contact with hot surfaces, increasing the risk of fire resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install clamps at both ends of the elbow of the breather tube assembly and reprogram the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to improve diagnostic capabilities.

    On certain vehicles, water could migrate into wiper motor head and could lead to internal corrosion. This internal corrosion could form a conductive salt bridge which could result in a short circuit, causing the wiper system to fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, and a short circuit could increase the risk of fire, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a shield over the wiper motor to protect it from water intrusions and prevent corrosion.

    On certain vehicles, the wheel nuts may have been insufficiently tightened during vehicle assembly. This could cause the wheel nuts to loosen and could lead to a complete separation of the wheel(s) from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and properly tighten the lug nuts to specification.

  • SERVICE BRAKES, AIR:SUPPLY:RESERVOIR/TANK#24V145000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2009-2021 Kenworth C500, 2012-2021 Kenworth T440, 2009-2015 Kenworth T660, 2015-2024 Kenworth T680, 2009-2024 Kenworth T800, 2009-2020 Kenworth T370, 2014-2023 Kenworth T880, 2011-2016 Kenworth T470, 2023 Kenworth T480, and 2009-2019 Kenworth W900 vehicles. The air tanks have an insufficient volume of air for the brake system. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 121, "Air Brake Systems."

    Risk: Insufficient air volume can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: Dealers will install the correct volume air tanks, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 12, 2024.   • ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)#20V199000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2008-2019 Peterbilt 330, 335, 337, 340, 348, 365, 367, 384, 386, 387, 388, 389, 567, 579 and 587 vehicles and 2008-2020 Kenworth T170, T270, T370, T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 vehicles equipped with NAMUX Software. In the event that the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) loses battery and/or ignition power to the controller, the dash warning light for the ABS may not illuminate to warn the driver of the loss of ABS. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems," and 136, "Electronic Stability Control System on Heavy Vehicles."

    Risk: If the driver unknowingly operates the vehicle without the ABS functioning, there would be an increased risk of a crash.

    Remedy: PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will update the NAMUX software within the cab control module, free of charge. PACCAR issued owners an interim notification on June 4, 2020.   • ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:DIESEL#18V555000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2016-2019 Kenworth C500, T660, T800, and W900 vehicles, equipped with 1.9M ISX15 engines. The engine harnesses may have been manufactured without check engine light (CEL) and stop engine light (SEL) circuits, preventing the driver from being warned of a serious engine problem.

    Risk: If the driver is not warned of a serious engine problem, the engine may unexpectedly fail, increasing the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will inspect or test the ISX15 engine harness, and install an overlay jumper harness to supply the missing CEL and SEL circuits, free of charge.   • ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC)#18V368000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Peterbilt 567 and 579 trucks and 2015-2018 Kenworth T660, T680, T800, T880 and W900 trucks. In the event that the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) loses battery and/or ignition power to the controller, the dash warning light for the ABS may not illuminate to warn the driver of the loss of ABS. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 121, "Air Brake Systems," and 136, "Electronic Stability Control System on Heavy Vehicles."

  • STEERING:LINKAGES:TIE ROD ASSEMBLY#17V593000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain 2016 Peterbilt 220, 320, 325, 330, 337, 348, 365, 367, 382, 384, 386, 389, 389G, 567, 579 and 587 trucks and Kenworth K170, T170, T270, T370, T440, T470,T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 trucks equipped with certain Spicer D or E series steer axles. The castellated nut on the steer axles may not be properly torqued, allowing the tie rod to loosen.

    Risk: If the tie rod loosens, it may disconnect from the steering knuckle, causing a complete loss of steering and increasing the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the torque of the castellated nut and tie rod, tightening it as necessary. If the tie rod stud and knuckle on units cannot be sufficiently torqued, the dealer will replace the knuckle and tie rod end assembly, free of charge. The recall began on November 13, 2017.   • EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS#16V362000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2016 Kenworth W900 trucks manufactured May 19, 2015, to December 21, 2015. The affected vehicles may have a temporary loss of headlights when being switched from low beam to high beam mode. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."

    Risk: A loss of headlights while switching to high beams will reduce the driver's visibility, increasing the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: Kenworth will notify owners, and dealers will alter the wiring harness to enable the high beams to illuminate, free of charge. The recall began on July 13, 2016. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000. Kenworth's number for this recall is 16KWA.

  • ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:MODULE#15V597000

    Paccar Incorporated (Paccar) is recalling certain model year 2016 Kenworth T370, T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 vehicles manufactured July 31, 2015, to August 12, 2015, and 2016 Peterbilt 337, 348, 365, 367, 382, 386, 389, 567, 579, and 587 vehicles manufactured August 4, 2015, to August 12, 2015. In the affected vehicles, the Engine Control Module (ECM) may short circuit, causing the engine to stall without warning.

    Risk: An engine that stalls without warning increases the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: PACCAR will notify owners, and dealers will replace the defective engine control modules, free of charge. The recall began on October 22, 2015.   • SERVICE BRAKES, AIR#15V457000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2016 Kenworth T440, T470, T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 trucks manufactured February 16, 2015, to March 9, 2015. The affected vehicles are equipped with an SR-7 spring brake valve assembly that may have had the primary and secondary service brake applications installed in reverse. In the event of a failure in the primary or secondary circuit, the redundant circuit would not provide adequate service brake functionality. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 121, "Air Brake Systems."

    Risk: A loss of braking ability would increase the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: Kenworth will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and correct the air line installations as required, free of charge. The recall began on September 16, 2015. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000. PACCAR's number for this recall is 15KWK.

  • ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE#15V309000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2010-2016 Kenworth T440, T800, and W900 trucks manufactured August 31, 2009, to April 20, 2015, and 2008-2015 Peterbilt 320, 337, 348, 365, 382, and 384 trucks manufactured July 27, 2007, to April 28, 2015, and equipped with certain Cummins Westport ISL G engines. Excessive engine crankcase pressures may cause the 90-degree elbow of the vent tube assembly to detach from the crankcase ventilation breather, possibly allowing engine oil to come into contact with hot surfaces.

    Risk: If engine oil comes into contact with a hot surface, there is an increased risk of a fire.

    Remedy: Cummins will notify owners on behalf of PACCAR, and Cummins service centers will administer the repairs which include securing the ends of the 90-degree elbow and reprogramming the electronic control module (ECM) with software that can adjust the engine output under misfire conditions to limit crankcase pressures. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on June 12, 2015.   • WHEELS:LUGS/NUTS/BOLTS/STUDS#15V272000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2016 Kenworth T660, T680, T800, T880, and W900 trucks manufactured February 1, 2015, to April 20, 2015. During assembly, the affected vehicles did not undergo the rear wheel mounting torque verification process, and thus the rear wheels may be loose.

    Risk: If the rear wheel lug nuts are undertorqued, the wheels may separate from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

    Remedy: Kenworth will notify owners, and dealers will verify that the rear wheel lug nuts are correctly tightened, free of charge. The recall began on July 1, 2015. Owners may contact Kenworth customer service at 1-425-828-5000. Kenworth's number for this recall is 15KWG.

  • VISIBILITY:WINDSHIELD WIPER/WASHER:MOTOR#15V271000

    PACCAR Incorporated (PACCAR) is recalling certain model year 2011-2016 Kenworth T270, T370, T440, T470, C500, C540, C550, T660, T800, W900, and 963 trucks manufactured November 1, 2010, to April 6, 2015. In the affected trucks, water may leak into the wiper motor.

    Risk: As water leaks in, the wiper may cease to function on the 'intermittent' setting, reducing the driver's visibility and increasing the risk of a crash. Additionally, the water may cause corrosion which, over time, may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire.

    Remedy: PACCAR is still developing and testing a remedy. The recall is expected to begin in July 2015. An interim letter was sent to owners on July 2, 2015. The recall began on September 2, 1015.
