Issue: On certain trucks, the reservoir tank for the air brake system is too small. In certain situations, this could cause reduced braking. Canadian regulations require enough air reservoir capacity to ensure the brakes work even with heavy use or when there is a partial loss of the air system. Safety Risk: Reduced braking can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your truck to a dealership to replace or add an additional air reservoir tank, as necessary.

Corrective Actions: PACCAR will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a Cummins authorized service center to replace the fuel hoses.

On certain vehicles equipped with an Eaton automated manual transmission and electronic clutch actuator (ECA), the clutch may have been manufactured improperly and could fail. If this occurs, the broken clutch components could prevent the transmission from disengaging or shifting to neutral. This could result in unintended vehicle movement, even if the parking brake is applied, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will recalibrate the Transmission Control Module (TCM).

On certain vehicles, the castellated nut and cotter pin on the steer axle may not have been tightened to specification. This could cause the tie rod to become loose in the steer axle, which would result in audible noise and/or looseness in steering. If the vehicle were continued to be operated in this condition, the tie rod could disconnect from the knuckle, resulting in a complete loss of control of a vehicle wheel, which would increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the torque of the castellated nuts on the tie rod, and replace the tie rod stud and knuckle as necessary.

Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 121 - Air Brake Systems. The two service brake connections of the SR-7 spring brake valve assembly that provide the valve with feedback from the primary and secondary service brake applications may have been reversed during installation. Although the SR-7 valve would still function properly if there were normal reservoir pressure, in the event of a failure in the primary or secondary circuit, the redundant circuit would not provide adequate service brake functionality, and the vehicle would fail to meet the emergency brake system performance standard. This could result in reduced braking performance which could result in a vehicle crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect, remove and reconnect the air lines to the correct port of the SR-7 valve.

Certain vehicles equipped with HID headlamps may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. A Daytime Running Lamp (DRL) that is optically combined with a turn signal lamp must switch off when the turn signal lamp is switched on as a hazard warning signal. In the affected vehicles, the DRL overrides the hazard flashing functionality after the service brake is applied for more than 2 seconds, which is contrary to the standard. The hazard functionality returns to normal when the application of the service brake is removed. Turn signal functionality would not impacted. Failure to warn oncoming vehicles with flashing hazard lamps could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will update vehicle software.

This could allow engine oil to come in contact with hot surfaces, increasing the risk of fire resulting in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install clamps at both ends of the elbow of the breather tube assembly and reprogram the Electronic Control Module (ECM) to improve diagnostic capabilities.

This internal corrosion could form a conductive salt bridge which could result in a short circuit, causing the wiper system to fail. Loss of windshield wiping capability, should it occur during a rainy/snowy day, may compromise the driver's ability to see the road and its users, and a short circuit could increase the risk of fire, which could result in injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will install a shield over the wiper motor to protect it from water intrusions and prevent corrosion.

Correction: Dealers will update the cover assembly on the ATR valves.

As a result, the wheel brake to which the slack adjuster is attached would no longer function, which could increase vehicle stopping distances. Should a steer axle slack adjuster fail, it could also cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking. Either problem could result in a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the slack adjusters.

An unseated connection may result in a power loss to a portion of the vehicle's exterior lighting, potentially inhibiting the visibility of the operator and/or detection of the vehicle in certain conditions, which could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect the harness and, if necessary, re-seat the female connectors on the male spade terminals.
