Canadian regulations require this information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: These small errors do not affect vehicle safety. If the window breaks, the glass may separate into large pieces instead of very small ones. Note: This is a voluntary recall that is not being conducted under the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. Safety Risk: Glass that breaks in to large pieces could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: The company will notify consumers by mail and instruct them to inspect the designation code marked on the rear window glass. Products affected by this recall have the designation “DOT 287” along with the lettering “VMR” (Replacement Market) and a date code that is before July 2019.   On certain vehicles, the inflator diffuser installed in certain side curtain air bag modules may not have been manufactured correctly. If the vehicle were involved in a crash that warranted side curtain airbag deployment, this could potentially lead to the diffuser detaching. If the diffuser were to detach, it could become a projectile in the occupant compartment, and could cause a tear that could result in the side curtain airbag to not fully inflate. Both of these conditions could increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will replace both the right and left hand side curtain airbags.

Correction: Dealers will verify the proper connection between the driver’s seat belt anchor and to the vehicle’s inner sill structure.

  On certain vehicles, the cable between the actuating lever for the secondary hood latch and the secondary latch may become corroded over time. This could cause the secondary hood latch to remain in the open position when the hood is closed. If the vehicle were to be driven with the primary hood latch disengaged, or primary hood latch is released while driving, the secondary hood latch may not hold the hood closed while the vehicle is in motion. If this were to occur, it could compromise the driver’s ability to see the road and its users, as well as cause damage to the windshield. These issues could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the secondary hood latch cable.

  On certain vehicles equipped with 2.0L and 2.4L engines, the engine may contain residual metallic debris from factory machining operations. If debris is present, it could potentially restrict oil flow to the main bearings and rod bearings and could lead to premature wear. If the vehicle continues to be driven with worn bearings, the bearings could fail, which could cause an engine stall while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in loss of motive power which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Worn bearings could also result in the illumination of the oil pressure lamp in the instrument cluster. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the engine sub-assembly.

  Certain vehicles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CMVSS) 208 - Occupant Protection in Frontal Impacts. The wiring to the switch within the driver seat belt buckle which monitors whether the seat belt is buckled or unbuckled could become damaged by the seat's height adjuster mechanism. This could result in no audible signal (chime) or indicator light if the buckle is not fastened, or the chime and indicator light staying on when the seat belt is buckled. A lack of audible signal (chime) or indicator light may increase the likelihood of the vehicle being operated with an unfastened seat belt, which would increase the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: Dealers will inspect, and if necessary, reroute the harness to its proper location. Any harnesses with damage to the circuitry will be replaced.

On certain Santa Fe Sport, a mixture of moisture and road salt may enter the rear parking assist sensors (mounted in the rear bumper), which could result in an electrical short on the circuit board within the sensor cavity. This could cause the sensors to overheat, which could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will replace all four sensors for the Rear Parking Assist System.
