  Issue: On certain vehicles, the recall repairs completed by a General Motors dealer during recall N242454440 (Transport Canada recall no. 2024-637) may not have been done correctly. As a result, a second repair is required. Over time, the transmission control valve could wear and lose pressure. If this happens, the transmission could shift harshly and could cause the rear wheels to lock up. Note: This recall only affects vehicles equipped with a diesel engine. Safety Risk: Rear wheels that lock suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to update the transmission control module software to detect excess wear in advance of a wheel lock up. If detected, a service engine light would turn on, a message would display in the instrument panel and the vehicle would be limited to fifth gear.

This problem affects soft and hard tri-fold tonneau covers that were sold as an accessory by General Motors dealers. Note: This recall is related to Transport Canada recalls 2019-494 and 2020-165. If your truck was previously repaired under either of those recalls, it does not require further repair under the new recall. Safety Risk: A tonneau cover that separates from a moving vehicle could create a hazard for other drivers and nearby people. Corrective Actions: General Motors will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your truck to a dealer to perform the recall repairs, including adding a tether to prevent the tonneau cover from detaching. Note: Until the recall repairs are completed, you can prevent the chance of the tonneau cover detaching by removing it from your truck and storing it.

The dealer will also apply a new spare tire information label over the existing tire label.
