On certain vehicles equipped with Kidde fire extinguishers with black plastic handles and valves, the fire extinguishers may become clogged or require excessive force to activate. Also, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury, and fail to discharge. In case of fire, failure of the extinguisher to function could result in injury and/or property damage. Correction: Owners will be provided with instructions on how to inspect the fire extinguisher to see if it is recalled. Replacement fire extinguishers will be supplied by Kidde directly. On certain fifth wheel and travel trailers, the Federal Certification label, the Tire and Loading Information label, and the Cargo Carrying Capacity label do not contain the correct Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR). The labels incorrectly indicate a GVWR of 6,260 kg (13,800 lb) instead of 5,566 kg (12,270 lb). As such, the vehicle could be unwittingly overloaded, which would result in poor vehicle handling characteristics, increasing the risk of a crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Updated labels will be mailed to owners of affected vehicles, along with instructions for proper installation.

Keystone RV Company (Keystone) is recalling various 2003-2018 Crossroads, Dutchmen, and Keystone recreational trailers equipped with Kidde Plastic-Handle or Push Button 'Pindicator' Fire Extinguishers. A list of the affected trailer models is available at: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/rcl/2017/RMISC-17V755-5127.pdf. These extinguishers may become clogged, preventing the extinguisher from discharging as expected or excessive force may be needed to activate the extinguisher. Additionally, in certain models, the nozzle may detach from the valve assembly with enough force that it could cause injury and also render the product inoperable. Risk: In the event of a fire, if the fire extinguisher does not function properly, it can increase the risk of injury.
Remedy: Keystone will notify owners and instruct them to contact Kidde for a replacement fire extinguisher, free of charge. The recall began on January 15, 2018. CROSSROADS IS RECALLING CERTAIN MODEL YEAR 2011 CROSSROADS CRUISER RECREATIONAL TRAILERS, MANUFACTURED FROM AUGUST 5, 2010, THROUGH DECEMBER 15, 2010. THESE VEHICLES WERE MANUFACTURED WITH INCORRECT INFORMATION ON THE FEDERAL IDENTIFICATION TAG, TIRE AND LOADING INFORMATION LABEL AND THE RECREATIONAL VEHICLE CARGO CARRYING CAPACITY LABEL. THUS, THESE VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 120, TIRE SELECTION AND RIMS FOR MOTOR VEHICLES OTHER THAN PASSENGER CARS.
Risk: AN INACCURATE LABEL COULD LEAD TO IMPROPER VEHICLE LOADING SPECIFICATIONS WHICH COULD LEAD TO A TIRE FAILURE WHICH MAY RESULT IN PERSONAL INJURY OR PROPERTY DAMAGE.
Remedy: CROSSROADS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS AND PROVIDE CORRECTED LABELS. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THOR INDUSTRIES AT 937-596-7965 OR CROSSROADS AT 260-593-2866.
