2,106 units affected
Issue: On certain motorcycles, a sudden difference in speed between the engine and rear wheel could damage the gearbox input shaft or cause it to break. If this happens, the rear wheel could lock up while riding. Note: This type of sudden change in rear wheel speed is uncommon, but may happen in an off-road situation where a spinning rear wheel slows suddenly while landing after a jump. Safety Risk: A rear wheel that locks suddenly could cause a loss of control and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW Motorrad will notify owners by mail and instruct you to bring your motorcycle to a dealership to update the engine management software.

1,629 units affected
Issue: On certain motorcycles, the front brake calipers may leak a small amount of brake fluid when parked. Over a long time, this could empty the fluid reservoir. If this happens, the motorcycle will have reduced brake performance. This problem may result in brake fluid on the front tire or wheel, and on the ground after the motorcycle has been parked for an extended period. The owner's manual has information for how to check the brake fluid level before riding. Note: This recall replaces BMW recall 34 003 20 (008) (Transport Canada recall 2020-377). Motorcycles that were repaired under that recall also require this repair. Safety Risk: Reduced front brake performance can cause extended stopping distances and increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to inspect the front brakes. The calipers will be replaced, if necessary.

Issue: This recall affects certain motorcycles equipped with optional colour-specific brake fluid reservoir covers. Canadian regulations require that certain safety information is provided on the brake fluid reservoir cover. On these motorcycles, that information may be missing or difficult to read. This could lead to improper maintenance of the brake system, like using the wrong type of brake fluid. Safety Risk: Improper maintenance of the brake system could lead to brake problems and create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the brake fluid reservoir cover.
