  • Electrical#2021049

    68 units affected

Issue: On certain motorcycles, a software problem in the electronic control unit (ECU) may cause damage to the starter motor or starter relay. If this happens, the rider may not be able to start the engine. Safety Risk: Being unable to start the engine under certain circumstances, such as after an engine stall at a traffic light, could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: None of the affected vehicles have been sold to retail customers. BMW will instruct dealers to update the ECU software and replace the battery, if necessary.

  • Brakes#2019405

    700 units affected

Issue: Over time, the front and rear brake calipers on certain motorcycles could corrode. As a result, the brake piston to could stick inside its cylinder bore. This would affect brake performance. Safety Risk: Reduced brake performance can cause increased stopping distances and create the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to replace the front and rear brake calipers with improved parts.

  • Structure#2018331

    343 units affected

On certain motorcycles, the side stand connector and/or frame could break. If this occurs while the motorcycle is in motion, it could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. If the side stand breaks while the motorcycle is stationary, it could fall over, increasing the risk of injury to bystanders. Correction: Dealers will inspect the side stand connector and frame for any damage. If no damage is found, the motorcycle will be equipped with a reinforcing plate and a new side stand connector. If damage is found, a redesigned frame including the reinforced side stand connector will be installed.

  • Lights And Instruments#2017329

    26 units affected

Certain motorcycles may not comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (CVMSS) 108 - Lighting System and Retroreflective Devices. The rear lighting and reflectors may not meet the requirements of the standard, which could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following road users, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: Dealers will replace the rear lighting unit and reflectors with ones that meet the requirements of the standard.
