    Issue: On certain vehicles, the connection between the driveshaft and rear differential could wear. If this happens, there could be a loss of power to the wheels, or the vehicle could move when it's parked and the parking brake isn't used. Safety Risk: A loss of power to the wheels could increase the risk of a crash. A parked vehicle that rolls away could also create the risk of an injury or a crash. Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, BMW recommends that you should always use the parking brake when you park. BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect the connection between the driveshaft and rear differential. The connection will be repaired or, if necessary, the driveshaft and rear differential will be replaced.

Corrective Actions: To reduce the safety risk, BMW advises not to use the remote heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) or remote engine start features and not to leave the vehicle unattended with the engine running until the recall repairs have been completed. BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the air conditioning system's electrical wiring harness. The dealer will also ensure that the wiring harness is secured properly.

The label reads as "NONE" when it should read as "NONE / AUCUN". Canadian regulations require the information to be listed on the label in both English and French. Safety Risk: This error does not affect vehicle safety. Corrective Actions: This is not a recall. The company has corrected the tire and loading information label for all new vehicles.

If this happens, you may notice the following symptoms: a warning symbol in the instrument cluster displaying a loss of coolant, reduced engine power, an unpleasant exhaust odour, an unusual noise from the engine and/or smoke from the engine compartment. Safety Risk: A cracked EGR cooler could create the risk of an engine fire. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and advise you to take your vehicle to a dealership to inspect and, if necessary, replace the EGR module and the intake manifold with updated parts.

Safety Risk: An overheated engine PCV valve heater could create the risk of a fire, even while the vehicle is parked and turned off. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your vehicle to a dealer to install a wire harness repair kit. BMW recommends that you should park your vehicle outdoors until the recall repairs have been completed.

The dealer will also inspect the intake manifold, and replace it, if necessary.

    Issue: On certain plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), debris may have entered the high-voltage battery during production. As a result, the battery could short circuit. Note: This recall is for potentially affected vehicles that did not have battery cell module(s) replaced as a part of TC Recall No. 2020-464. Under this new recall the battery cell module(s) must be replaced. Safety Risk: A short circuit in the battery could create a fire risk. Corrective Actions: BMW will notify owners by mail and inform you to take your vehicle to a dealer to replace the battery cell module(s) of the high-voltage battery. BMW recommends that you should not charge your vehicle and that you should not drive the vehicle in manual mode, sport mode or use the shift paddles until the recall repairs have been completed. BMW also recommends that you should drain the high-voltage battery via iDrive, by setting/leaving the charging state at 30%, until the recall repairs have been completed.

This could make the rearview image difficult to see if a driver had previously adjusted the camera display brightness at or near the lowest setting, and contrast at or near the highest setting. Canadian regulations require that the rearview display returns to the default view each time the camera is turned on. Safety Risk: Reduced rear visibility could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective Actions: The company will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to update the software for the rearview camera. Drivers are recommended not to adjust the display brightness at or near the lowest setting, and contrast at or near the highest setting, until this recall is completed.

On certain vehicles, the cooler for Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) module may develop an internal leak and coolant could mix with diesel engine soot/sediment. In rare circumstances, this condition could result in smouldering particles and lead to the melting of the intake manifold, increasing the risk of a fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will inspect the EGR cooler, and if necessary, replace it. If it is determined that the EGR cooler has leaked internally, the intake manifold will also be replaced. The EGR pipe connecting the cooler to the manifold will be cleaned. Note: An operator may be alerted to this condition by one or more of the following symptoms: A warning symbol in the instrument cluster displaying a loss of engine coolant, a reduction in engine power, an unpleasant odour (exhaust gas), an unusual noise from the engine compartment, and/or smoke from the engine compartment.

    On certain BMW M5 models, the fuel level sensor may contact an in-tank fuel line, causing the fuel gauge to display an incorrect fuel level. This may create a situation where the vehicle could run out of fuel while the gauge still displays that there is fuel remaining. As a result, the engine could stall without warning and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will secure the fuel line so that it does not contact the fuel level sensor.

Correction: Dealers will check the production date of the CV joint and, if necessary, replace the CV joint.

    On certain vehicles, a Sensor Cluster Unit (SCU) having incorrect programming may have been installed in error by dealers during servicing. As the SCU helps determine if the driver and/or passenger airbags, seat belt pretensioners and active head restraints should be deployed during a crash, incorrect programming could result in an inadequate activation of one or more of these restraint systems in a crash. This could increase the risk of injury to occupants. Correction: Dealers will replace the SCU. Note: In the interim, owners are advised to stop operating their vehicle until the defect has been repaired.

    On certain vehicles, the wires going to the in-tank fuel pump may not have been crimped correctly. An incorrect crimp could increase the resistance of the circuit which could cause the contact pin to heat and melt the surrounding plastic. This could potentially cause the fuel pump to stop working causing the vehicle to stall without warning, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Also, in a very rare case, a fuel leak combined with an external ignition source, could increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel delivery module.

Correction: Dealers will inspect the driveshaft and, if necessary, replace it.

    Certain vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 210.2 - Lower Universal Anchorage Systems for Restraint Systems and Booster Cushions. The inboard child restraint fixture anchor on the left rear seat may have been bent downwards during vehicle assembly. This could result in a child restraint system not fully engaging both lower anchors, contrary to the requirements of the standard. In the event of a crash, if a child seat is not properly secured, it could increase the risk of injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect the inboard lower anchor on the left rear seat, and if necessary, repair.

    Certain vehicles, which were parked at the port of entry in Halifax during the ice storms in February 2015, may have been exposed to excessive standing water and salt for an extended period due to this isolated environmental incident. Certain MINI models could have corrosion at the starter motor power supply cable connectors, which could lead to the inability to restart the engine following an engine shutdown by the start-stop (MSA) system, increasing the risk of crash causing injury in a traffic situation. On certain BMW models, the lubrication of some internal components within the steering rack may have been exposed to excessive water or salt which could result in higher than normal steering effort or steering binding, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. In addition, electrical wires and/or connectors in all affected vehicles may have been exposed to water or salt, which could lead to increased electrical system resistance, and increase the risk of fire causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: Owners should contact their selling Retailer regarding this recall. Affected vehicles will be inspected. Some vehicles will be taken out of service immediately and owners will be provided with temporary transportation until a new replacement vehicle is available. All other vehicles are cleared of this safety concern and may continue to be driven until a new replacement vehicle is available. Due to potential concerns about long term vehicle quality, all affected vehicles will ultimately be removed from service.

If this were to occur, the vacuum pump could fail, causing a loss of power assist to the braking system. Note: This is an expansion of recall 2013-330.

Over time, the bolt connection could loosen, which would increase electrical resistance. In addition, an incorrectly insulated bulkhead connector could allow humidity to accumulate at this location, causing current leakage. These issues could cause the cable connection to overheat, which could result in a vehicle fire causing property damage and/or personal injury. Correction: Dealers will inspect and, as necessary, secure the insulated bulkhead connector. In addition, protective grease will be added to the area and the plastic battery positive terminal cover will be replaced.

Correction: Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the brake booster and master cylinder. Correction: Dealers will replace the fuel level sender with a revised version.

    Certain vehicles are equipped with a tire information label that does not conform to the Canada Motor Vehicle Safety Standard. It is indicating that the vehicle's seating capacity is five (5) passengers but the actual seating capacity is only for four (4) passengers. However the tire size, tire pressure and vehicles capacity weight on label are correct. Correction: New labels will be applied/provided.
