Issue: On a small number of digger derricks, the gearbox assembly may not have been manufactured properly. As a result, the gearbox brake may not hold the boom in place. If this happens, the boom could move freely. Safety Risk: A boom that moves on its own could create a risk of injury. Corrective Actions: Altec Industries will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to inspect the serial number of the gearbox. If the serial number is in the affected range, Altec advises you to stop using your digger derrick immediately and contact Altec to inspect and, if necessary, replace the gearbox assembly.
